We're going to be visiting Montreal for the first time in mid-March. Does anyone know any good hotels that are connected to the underground city and near a subway stop? Also, what's the best way of traveling on day trips to Ottawa and Quebec City, train or bus? Thanks for all of your help!
Here's a list of the better known hotels connected to the RESO - Marriott Château Champlain Hôtel Le Reine Elizabeth Hôtel InterContinental Hôtel Le St. James Hôtel Delta Centre-Ville Hôtel Hyatt Regency Hôtel des Gouverneurs Hôtel Hilton Montreal Bonaventure W Hotel Montreal at Square Victoria Check out their websites for prices etc. There are of course many others with above ground access but still close to the RESO and Metro entrances. As to day trips to Ottawa and Quebec - most people use the bus and the best deals can usually be done by going to the bus station the day before. Me I personally like the train - it's a bit slower, slightly more expensive but much more comfortable.

Both cities can be done on a day trip basis on your own.....train travel might be slower but arrives in Quebec City within walking distance of the Old Town...Ottawa's train station is not walkable really to the downtown tourist attractions, a bus or cab ride would be necessary to get you closer.Bus station in Quebec City shares a venue with the train station..Ottawa's bus station is a short cab ride from tourist attractions. If you'd like an organized day tour.. day trips to both Quebec City and Ottawa are available...just a thought...Ive never used them but they're reviews seem to be decent..and they're inexpensive.. viator.com/tours/Montreal/Ot...

Most of the hotels that are connected to the underground city are older and quite expensive. If this is not an issue with you I would recommend the Hotel Le Saint James located at 355 St. Jacques. The hotel itself is gorgeous, the lobby, the restaurant and the spa. Service is first class and it is one of the few five star hotels I have stayed in. The room we got had floor to ceiling windows and a great view. The room had a four poster bed absolutely beautiful and a very comfortable mattress. Here is a link. At the time of booking there was a promotion with AMEX. Even then it was expensive. http://www.hotellestjames.com/ With regard to Quebec City and Ottawa I would definitely recommend renting a car. The service by train, in my opinion, would be too slow. Old Town Quebec City my favorite place in Quebec. I think you will enjoy it.

It will be a very short visit in both cities if you only go there and back the same day by bus. The only one day trip would be an organized tour (look for wonder travel cie) or to rent a car. A week-end rate from friday to monday will be quite cheap. The ride is an easy drive (about 3 hours one way for both sides) have a good trip
