    • Is cliff jumping at the Nauyaca Waterfalls possible in January?

Costa Rica Dec 14, 2014 at 4:18 PM

Traveling to Costa Rica at the end of January. My itenarary includes a trip to the Nauyaca Waterfalls. There is a place there to make a 75ft jump into the water at the base of the falls. During the time of the year when I will be there (dry season?) will there be enough water to do the jumps at the falls?
      Thanks, Brian

Bus Travel Across CR in early March, 2015

Costa Rica Nov 22, 2014 at 3:12 PM

My wife and I are getting off a cruise ship in Limon on the East coast at about 7:00 am and want to take a bus to Tamarindo, on the West coast, so hopefully a daylight trip across CR. What bus service is available and how reliable and comfortable is it? BTW, we are both seniors and I am 6'4". We travel light, just with carry-ons. Any advice is appreciated.

      Driving in Costa Rica

Costa Rica Nov 28, 2014 at 10:15 PM

Ok, we are about to leave for San Jose, then Quepos, with a couple day stop in Cartago for work first. I am braving it by renting a car out of the airport. Two questions please:
      1. For some reason I am kinda nervous about driving in and around San Jose. I speak a bit of Spanish and normally I am an excellent driver (live in LA and have driven in many places). Are there any different rules or customs that will get me in trouble? Should I take this more seriously than just going for it?

      2. My first leg will be driving from the main airport and then down towards Cartago. I see what looks easy in taking Highway 1 to Highway 39 to Highway 2. But I am looking at Google earth and see they have many alternate names. My question is if they post the highway names very well, or should I write down and look for every one of these Calles y Avenidas?

Should I just take a taxi! Or should I just not worry, It mostly makes sense????

      Thanks ahead for any advise.

Hi! Looking for the most affordable/quickest way to get to Montezuma from San Jose airport for a family of 5? As well as return for the flight home! - Is it more efficient to fly into Liberia and travel to Montezuma from there or San Jose? Thanks

    • Handmade jewellery shop in Montezuma?

by RobertGore Online Now Oct 29, 2013 at 2:21 AM

Have lost name and address of a small shop in the main street to the beach which specialises in silver set sea shells, as pendants etc. The owner is a young man from another part of central america, who works at a bench in the shop. Any suggestions anyone? Does a good map of the town or some kind of street view exist?

      WiFi in hotels/lodgings in Montezuma

by snowboarder74 Online Now Jun 16, 2011 at 9:22 AM

Planning to spend a week in Montezuma and work from there at the same time. Wondering what the Internet situation is in Montezuma (or Costa Rica in general)? Do most hotels/lodgings have WiFi? Is it pretty reliable? TIA.

by tagema Online Now Apr 27, 2011 at 7:35 PM

Hi... Halfway a great stay in Costa Rica, I'm sending this message from Santa Elena. We will be heading for Montezuma in 2 days from now. I got kind of spoiled over here, so who can recommend a good place with hot water ? Also, I'd like to hear some experiences in Cabo Blanco and the Curu Reservate, both in south Nicoya. Thanks a lot !

First Timer planning 10 day trip to Montezuma/MalPais/Santa Theresa...need tips/advice/help!!!

by pegasus1177 Online Now Feb 17, 2009 at 10:00 AM

      Hi all!

I am a costa rica 'virgin' planning my first ever getaway to the region to escape the sinking economy and take advantage of my current unemployed status...hee hee. I do NOT have a lot of money...I had a public interest job before this whole fiasco and am not sitting on a pile of layoff money or savings or anything like that. I am definitely looking to go budget all the way but still be able to explore a beautiful area, be safe and have a really inspiring and relaxing time. I will be flying into San Jose airport and thought I would take the bus to Mal Pais/Santa Theresa for half the time and then go up to Montezuma for the rest of the time and back to San Jose for the return flight. I'd like to know what the best mode of transport from malpais to montezuma would be. I assume public bus? I am thinking of staying at Casa Zen in malpais and the luna llena hostel in montezuma. Any thoughts/warnings/recommendations???

I'm excited to plan this trip and welcome any input from those who have been there. OH almost forgot...I'm vegan (although mainly for health reasons/dislike of meat/dairy industry practices) and thinking about eating local fish while there but want to make sure I have enough vegan options too.

    • Driving from Liberia?

by B&Y Online Now Oct 8, 2008 at 5:20 PM

      Hi all,
does anyone know how long does it take to drive to Montezuma from Liberia?
How are the roads? What is the best route to take, Road 21 all the way? Or take the 21 then 163 in Jicaral?
How is the road between Pavones and Jicaral?
Is the 21 after Jicaral, nice scenic drive along the coast?
We are fairy experienced in driving in CR, in the past we drove to Osa, Puerto Viejo, etc. several times.

      Many thanks,

      Pura Vida

Hi yall. We're going to Montezuma pretty soon. What are the beaches like? White sand? Black sand? Because we hate tanlines, we were looking at how liberal they are with being topless. Anyone know?

    • best way to get back to San Jose on Sun.?

by taloysen Online Now Jan 7, 2007 at 1:26 PM

We (4 people) are hoping to spend a long weekend in Montezuma, leaving Thurs. pm after language classes and returning Sunday. We won't have a car. I've found that the public bus leaves at 3:30 pm from Coca Cola, which works for us. But only Sunday options seem to be early morning. I'd like to be able to go back in the afternoon, at least have that morning to hang out. Is there a way, like maybe the water taxi and then shuttle? Any other options (especially less expensive ones)? Also, is it a good idea to avoid Coca Cola after dark?
      Thanks, TAL

by hollywade Online Now Sep 24, 2006 at 4:01 PM

      Hello everyone!

I was hoping that someone could help me with a few questions before travelling to C.R. in November. We are taking public transportation from San Jose to Arenal and then Monte Verde. We would then like to go to Montezuma. I have heard that there is no public trans going into Montezuma from Monte Verde and that I would have to go to Puntarenas and take the ferry. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, can I rent a car and drive there myself? Also, I would like to know if its a good idea to bring a bucket of "treats" for the local dogs? I would appreciate any help you could give. Thank you very much!
