    • Recomendations for good quality but inexpensive Florence hotel for two nights?

      Florence 27 minutes ago

The subject line says it all. Too many confusing choices to one unfamiliar with the city. Some good VT traveler recommendations? Thanks.

    • June 24--St. Giovanni Day

      Florence May 6, 2013 at 9:05 PM

I am planning a dinner at a restaurant in City Center Firenze with a group of friends on June 24. Some people have written back saying that June 24 is Saint Giovanni Day in Firenze. Is there anything I should know about that day in Firenze? Would it be a problem to go into City Center that evening?

      Thank you in advance.

Best location to pick up rental car in Florence

      Florence May 9, 2013 at 12:54 PM

We are arriving in Florence by train (SMN station) and need to pick up a car to drive to our rented villa in Tuscany. I remember getting a car in Florence before (but can't remember the pick up location) that was not too far from the Autostrada toward Siena.

We need to reserve our car with Europcar, but don't know the best location to avoid the ZTL.

Also EuropCar has a mid-size car Alfa Giulietta (or similar) they say will seat 5 people. We have 4 adults traveling together: In past travels to Italy it was just my husband and me and we had plenty of room. Does anyone have experience with a mid-size car with Europcar?

Thank you in advance for your response.

      Getting to Sant'Antimo

by SandiM Online Now Mar 7, 2010 at 7:54 PM

2 females, 42 & 73 (both car-less), taking a bus from Pienza to Montalcino in hopes of visiting Sant'Antimo in the morning. Can someone suggest a way to get to the Abbey without taking a car? I know of 2 buses to the abbey, but they leave at 710am and then not until 145pm. Our bus from Pienza drops us off around 730am, so we'll miss the first bus and I'm planning to photograph the interior of the Abbey in the morning, with the light streaming in so the 145pm bus won't do. Are there taxis to hire? Or is it possible to hitch a ride? I don't think my mother can handle a walk, if it's very far or very hilly. Suggestions?

Hi, We are taking a train from Rome Termini to Chiusi. From there we would like to go to Montalcino then possibly to Siena. If we go to Siena we would take a train directly back to Rome. I am having difficulty figuring out how to get from Chiusi to Montalcino by either train/bus?

    • Buses from Rome to Montalcino??

by tearose214 Online Now Sep 6, 2006 at 9:00 AM

I'm trying to figure out the easiest and quickest way to get from Rome to Montalcino without a car. The train seems inconvenient since it requires switching in three different towns (Chiusi, Siena, Buonconvento). I am wondering if there is a direct bus option from Rome, how often it leaves, and how long it takes, or alternately, whether there are buses that go from the train station at Chiusi directly to Montalcino. Would appreciate your advice!
