    • AREA to stay in Elba

      Isola d' Elba Apr 9, 2015 at 4:25 AM

Travelling to Elba with my Mum and Dad at the end of May, beginning of June.

Due to the Bus time tables from Florence, we would be on Elba for 4nights.

Ideally like to pick 1 hotel for the 4nights, and do day trips from that base.

      Tried to research the best area to stay in Elba, with no luck. Suggestions seem to be;

Marina di Campo/ Porto Azzuro/ Cavoli.

Obviously I need to narrow it down to 1.
They are both 50yrs old, we would like to see all of the 'touristy' things that Elba has to offer, and also a couple of walks, and a beach.

So in short, best AREA to stay in Elba.

      Thanks

      Livorno Yesterday

Our cruise was originally supposed to stop in LaSpezia, but they changed the itinerary to Livorno. We had our hearts set on going to Cinque Terre from LaSpezia. I know that Livorno is quite a bit further away, but we are in port from 7 am to 7 pm. Would taking the train up be a possibility?

      Mugello Race

Barberino di Mugello May 3, 2015 at 6:03 PM

      Hello, VT Nation:

I've traveled to all of the MotoGP races in America and am now trying to gauge distances from Europe's MotoGP circuits to each town's epicenter (hotels, restaurants, motorbike shops, bars, clubs, etc.).

For Mugello, is there just one little town outside of the track? And if so, how far is it and is it very exciting? If the track holds 50,000 people, I imagine all of those Rossi enthusiasts need to eat and sleep somewhere close by.

Any help you could provide would be most helpful.

      Cheers!

      Carrara Apr 11, 2015 at 6:04 PM

We visited a marble shop in Carrara many years ago when we were stationed in Naples, Italy (1990). The shop had a small cafe attached to it - and I remember the owners had a pet monkey that was on a leash which they chained to one of the chairs. Does anyone know what shop this is? If it still exists? Thanks.

I am on a cruise ship (first time) and docking nearish to Florence & Pisa. I am not into organised timed excursions, as I like to amble around and take my time. Is there a way to visit both these places independently of the cruise ship? Bus train etc? Also any recommendations? Thank you in advance x

Our 2.5 Day Itinerary in Florence (First timers - Need advice!)

      Florence Apr 14, 2015 at 7:14 PM

Greetings dear travellers! Me and the wife are going to Florence (for the first time!) this summer. With so many things to see, eat, and do, I can't help but make a detailed itinerary. We're newlyweds and kind of in a budget trip, so you might notice we're just hitting the panini stands and pasta/pizza to-go shops a lot.

Now I need some advice from seasoned travellers and Italian enthusiasts to know if our plan is possible, especially the museum/gallery trips and walking distances. Also, if you have some "YOU MUST DEFINITELY DO/SEE THIS..." advice, that would be awesome! By the way, we will be coming in by train from Venice and we're off to Cinque Terre after.

Without further ado, here's our 2.5 day Florence itinerary:

      Florence (Day 1)

      • Arrive at train station
      • Check in at apartment
      • Lunch at Amorino Panino e Vino
      • Il Duomo di Firenze (Cupola, Campanile, Baptistery)
      • Dinner at I Due Fratellini
      • Buy wine from Enoteca Alessi
      • Lounge around Piazza della Signoria

      Florence (Day 2)

      • Galleria dell'Accademia
      • Tuscan Food Cooking Tour (starts 10am):

                - Historical food market in Florence

                - Tuscan countryside cooking lesson with chef

(arista, pizza, pasta, tiramisu, and gelato)

                - 4-course Tuscan lunch with Chianti wine

                - Receive a diploma, book and apron

      • Shop at Mercato San Lorenzo
      • Dinner at Sandwichic

      Florence (Day 3)

      • Galleria degli Uffizi (and its café terrace)
      • Lunch at Mangia Pizza Firenze
      • Cross the Ponte Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti

                - Galleria Palatina and Boboli Gardens

      • Walk along the river to Piazza Poggi
      • Enjoy the sunset at Piazzale Michelangiolo
      • Dinner at All'Antico Vinaio
      • Lounge around Piazza della Repubblica

      Getting to Sant'Antimo

by SandiM Online Now Mar 7, 2010 at 7:54 PM

2 females, 42 & 73 (both car-less), taking a bus from Pienza to Montalcino in hopes of visiting Sant'Antimo in the morning. Can someone suggest a way to get to the Abbey without taking a car? I know of 2 buses to the abbey, but they leave at 710am and then not until 145pm. Our bus from Pienza drops us off around 730am, so we'll miss the first bus and I'm planning to photograph the interior of the Abbey in the morning, with the light streaming in so the 145pm bus won't do. Are there taxis to hire? Or is it possible to hitch a ride? I don't think my mother can handle a walk, if it's very far or very hilly. Suggestions?

      Hi,
We are taking a train from Rome Termini to Chiusi. From there we would like to go to Montalcino then possibly to Siena. If we go to Siena we would take a train directly back to Rome.
I am having difficulty figuring out how to get from Chiusi to Montalcino by either train/bus?

    • Buses from Rome to Montalcino??

by tearose214 Online Now Sep 6, 2006 at 9:00 AM

I'm trying to figure out the easiest and quickest way to get from Rome to Montalcino without a car. The train seems inconvenient since it requires switching in three different towns (Chiusi, Siena, Buonconvento). I am wondering if there is a direct bus option from Rome, how often it leaves, and how long it takes, or alternately, whether there are buses that go from the train station at Chiusi directly to Montalcino. Would appreciate your advice!
