il Giglio and Brunello

by wdwgal Online Now May 18, 2007 at 8:04 PM

Has anyone ever stayed at Hotel Giglio in Montalcino?
what is the hotel like?
where are good places to eat nearby?
where is a good winery to try Brunello?
do any of the wineries give free tastings?
where is the best place to buy Brunello?
Thanks!

    Check out the website www.tripadvisor.com
It has loads of reviews of lots of hotels, and I quickly checked and the hotel you mentioned is on there, so you can get information first hand from people who have stayed there.

We were just there in June. Any of the brunellos are good I just would not recommend Casanova Di Neri. They are very expensive(50 euros per person), to taste and once they sell you wine they do not care if it ever makes it to you. I would go to the Fortezza wine shop in Montalcino, very nice and reasonably priced. Also, with any tasting try the picarino cheese it is only made in this region. Enjoy.
