Hi VTers, i plan a long weekend to Moldova and my journey is Chisinau - Orhei - Soroca, independent travel on the cheap. Anybody has some hidden tips on transport & accomodation on Orhei and Soroca? - Do buses run on Saturdays and Sundays between Chisinau and Orhei/Soroca? Timetable ideas? - Is it possible to catch a bus for Soroca from Orhei? - accomodation tips for Soroca and Orhei? 10X iosif
I had a trip to Orhei but during winter. There was no direct buses from Chisinau to Orhei Vechi (if you wish to visit the monastery). You may get to Orhei but this town is quite far from the monastery. The best was is to take a bus to Orhei and say to bus driver you want to go to Orhei Vechi and he will tell you where to leave the bus. However, the place is also not close and you need to walk few kilometres or be lucky to catch antoher bus.;) I came back from the village of Trebujeni to Orhei. This is the village which is situated on the opposite site of the monastery and you may get there going on th cliff. During summer months there may be direct buses from Chisinau to Orhei Vechi but I do not know much about it. All buses, including Soroca, leave Chisinau when are full. So you need to wait, usually not that long.
