Milwaukee to Toronto (ONT) Using the Ferry System

by Seabiscuit Online Now May 9, 2008 at 4:46 PM

Low and high, high and low, I have looked everywhere. Has anyone done the Milwaukee, WI to Toronto, ONT trip using the ferry system across Lakes Michigan and Huron (God, I hope that's the right lake). I'm trying to find a way to avoid a nasty trip just on the US highway system going to Connecticut. Toronto to Connecticut is a scant 9 hour drive, whereas, Rochester, MN to CT is around 20 hrs. We will be taking a car (obviously) so portage with that item is mandatory.

We'll be heading out May 20. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
A gagillion thanks to anyone that can help.
Jeff-

We looked into the ferry from Milwaukee to Muskegon when our daughter moved to Traverse City, MI as a way to save some time going around the lower end of Lake Michigan. (They have a web site www.lake-express.com/.) It turned out that the cost was just under80 for the car and70 for each person each way and they have return fare rates as well. The drive from Waukegan IL to the Muskegon area is around three or four hours and the ferry would not save much time. We were looking at it going both directions so we drive mostly because the cost didn't justify the relatively minor time savings. Don't know anything about crossing Lake Huron.
Don't forget to visit the Submarine Museum in Groton CT! Have a nice trip.

Have you LOOKED at a map????

To make this journey by water assuming such ferries existed, you'd have to go all the way north from Milwaukee on Lake Michigan to where it met Lake Huron then back all the way south again on Lake Huron to its southernmost point and portions of Lake Erie to Detroit, then east along the entire length of Lake Erie and portions of Lake Ontario to Toronto.

It would end up taking MUCH MORE time than the highways!

"Have you LOOKED at a map????"

Hopefully, that was said in levity. I see you have no pages, no information, no nothing. As such, I'll ignore the comment completely. And, thank you for sharing. Idiot.

    You are an idiot, Seabiscuit.

Because had you LOOKED at a map, you would see what I mean.

    Onward in your foolish quest.
