Good Day All, Any recommendations for staying outside of Milano, leaving my car and taking public transportation into the city to sightsee? Any type of accommodation or neighborhood is fine with me as long as it is clean and safe. An inexpensive hotel, hostel or home stay would be a bonus. I prefer traveling this way rather than being in the heart of the city. Landing in Milano June 20th. Thanks so much. Gail
Good idea just make sure where you leave your car is good.Car theft or break in is rife all over.I lIVED THERE 3 YEARS and always the main concern around the major cities.

Hi Tdiver, Thanks for the tip. All cities have their share of petty crime.

Hi, Public traports are a good idea if you want to visit Milano during the day, but in the evening you can have some problem to have the bus to come back in the late evening. There are some not expensive hotels, like IBIS, in downtown with a private parking. Check on IBIS and NOVOTEL website. Another solution is to park in the big parking in front of the main central station and to choose an hotel or a B&B in downtown. Milano is famous for shopping, the Chatedral, Brera and the Last Supper and for the nightlife in the navigli disctict or Brera. Are you arriving by plane on june 20th? If yes consider to take your car when you will leave Milano. Ciao Giorgio

Ciao Giorgio, My son and I are landing in Milano on June 20th. I am renting a car which I will pick up at the airport. I will only go into the city to sightsee. I prefer staying in smaller neighborhoods. The shopping does not interest me. I have enough clothes! I want to visit Lago Maggiore as well while I am in the area and before moving on. Perhaps I will stay north of the city. I will check the IBIS website. Grazie tanti.
