Our family has moved to Indianapolis from Alabama. We are looking for a good 3 to 4 day weekend trip with good Scenery, shopping, etc. where we can relax and have fun. Any ideas? Thanks, - Jim
Try Houghton Lake Area, or Traverse City or if you want something really special, Mackinaw Island. There are so many places in Michigan that would meet the requirements that you have asked for that it would take forever to see! Northern Michigan is definately a great place for outdoor fun for all the family. Take U.S. 27 North and drive until you get to the Northern woods of Michigan. Look around and where ever you look, you will see a beautiful lake and green trees:):) Have a great summer holiday.

Along the Lake Michigan coast, you might have a look at Saugatuck or South Haven http://www.saugatuck.com/ http://www.southhaven.org/

If you want to focus on *southern* Michigan, Saugatuck is nice, as mentioned in previous post. I also like Marshall, a town with great 19th century architecture and lots of antique shops. See: http://www.marshall.mi.us/ Off the beaten path, Chesaning is also a nice place to visit chesaningchamber.org/index.p... There's lots to see in Michigan. Enjoy your explorations!

Traverse city or Petoskey, both on lake michigan, are real nice. Petoskey is smaller but has gorgoues scenery and beaches, classy downtown shopping and eating, and plenty of things to do. Traverse city has the natioanl cherry festival this week. practically endless oppuruntiy for fun. go to nationalcherryfestival .org. CO
