Activities for Young Kids

by Heatonkbrewer Online Now Mar 26, 2013 at 6:37 AM

Hi! Going to be in Miami and Fort Lauderdale with my husband and 2 kids, April 7-11th. Looking for ideas for fun/unique things to do with little kids other than beach/pool that would be appropriate for a 3 year old. thanks!

    Hello, we live in Miami.

For fun, check out Jungle Island on SoBe: http://www.jungleisland.com/index.cfm

Next to Jungle Island is also the Miami Children's Museum with lots of hands on exhibits for kids while providing a beautiful backdrop of Miami's skyline:

    There is also SeaAquarium: http://miamiseaquarium.com/

We also have one of the top zoos in the nation and rated amongst the top zoos in the world:

Finally, accessible from both Miami and Ft. Lauderdale are the everglades.
I personally prefer the shark valley entrance off of State Road 41 (SW 8th St) and they will be able to see alligators and many other animals up close and personal:

    I hope this helps.

you have good tips above, when my Florida born kids were there we enjoy the zoo and seaquarium too
and playing in parks like the one in key biscayne suitable for visitors too. The closer to home Ftl Lauderdale has many activities for kids in their tourist page

Hi - I'd recommend the excellent zoo (http://www.miamimetrozoo.com/) and the children's museum (http://www.miamichildrensmuseum.org/). It's been a long, long time since I've been to Monkey Jungle, Parrot Jungle, and the Seaquarium but I think they'd be appropriate as well. A trip to the Everglades should burn off some energy too. Enjoy!

Ayup, monkey jungle is up the road from us but it's become quite expensive and frankly, not worth it - imho.
Parrot Jungle is no more Donna, it is now Jungle Island.
The old parrot jungle (who's owners Bern Levine and Bernie Schubot I worked for), sold property and bought "Jungle Island" directly from where cruise ships take off.
Ditto for Miami Metro Zoo - now "Zoo Miami"
