Hello, We are planning a two week trip to Mexico in December with our 3 year old daughter. Ideally, we would like to spend a week in Mexico City and a week in the Mayan Riviera. I am trying to work out the logistics here. We are thinking of flying into Mexico City and out of Cancun. In and around Mexico City we would like to visit the Anthropology Museum and Teotihucuan. In the Riviera we would like to take a day trip to Chichen Itza and Tulum. My questions are- 1. Does this sound like a feasible plan to be done with a 3 year old ? 2. Are there any specific attractions for kids? Thanks An
Hello. Mexico city is huge and maybe a little scary but is worthwhile.Just be very alert with your kid.For a week in this city you could consider a visit to the Basilica de Guadalupe, the Chapultepec castle and zoo(kids),the Papalote museum(kids),Xochimilco lake and the Zocalo. Dont forget to try some tacos especially of suadero. Cancun is another story is more relaxed in relation with your kid, Xcaret and especially Xel-Ha are good for kids and grownups, you may consider isla Mujeres (45 min. by ferry, Cozumel island (2Hours by boat) and Playa del Carmen (30 min by urban bus from Cancun)

You might want to consider Puerto Morelos for the Mayan Riviera portion of your trip. It's a small not too touristy town with great beaches for kids. There is very little surf and no drop off. The town's very walkable, great restaurants and there are lots of families hanging out in the town square. Very closeby is the Crococun Zoo which is great for kids and adults.

>> Does this sound like a feasible plan to be done with a 3 year old ? Well, no one can know that better than yourself.... only YOU know your kid. There are kids who can handle moving around a lot better than others who cry a lot, feel uncomfortable when at strange places/environments, etc. The plan sounds more than feasable to me, 2 weeks is plenty of time to see those specific attractions you mentioned without rushing around, but I don't know if your kid will think the same. The kind of attractions you mentioned are not kid-friendly at all, that's for sure. As for places which are kid-friendly, I think the PAPALOTE MUSEUM in Mex city which someone else mentioned is suitable for older kids, a 3 year old is too young and might not find it too appealing. The zoo is a better idea (close to zona rosa and polanco areas, within the chapultepec garden), as well as a place called KIDZANIA (or "Kid's town") in a huge shopping mall called Santa fe, a bit in the outskirts of the city, towards the west. That's about all I can think of. As for the riviera maya, except for the ruins and natural parks there's nothing to do except lie on the beach.... so any place will be good for that (Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Cozumel, even Cancun), as the kid will not be able to spend hours doing that anyway. I don't think there are any museums dedicated to kids in this area, so maybe only the natural parks would be a good option as your kid will be able to see a lot of animals there, and more and more water & sand. Good luck.

I don't see any problem to visit Mexico City and CanCun with your child. But of course every child responds diferent to new experiences. In Mexico city you can Visit The Zoo that is located next to Chapultepec Castle. Kidzania is a great place for kids, but in this case I consider that is not appropiated for the age of your daughter. Instead I recommend to take the time to visit Park Lincoln that is located in Polanco ( I can't remember the street name) This park has a nice and big playground, the playground is gated with a security guard at the entrance, and the best is that is free. Next there's also a birds area also free to visit and a small water area where you can rent a remote control ship or boat to play. In front of this park there are also very good restaurants and cafes. In CanCun I recomend Xhel-Ha and Xcaret, both are family oriented with lots of interesting things for you and your child,

Hola An, This is Silvia and I would like to share my experience n the Riviera maya with you. During last March we visited Chichen Itza during the equinox with my 2 years old son and was a long but a great trip. We just stopped at the Valladolid square to buy an ice cream and walk and when we get to the archeological site of Chichen Itza we were walking and playing in the grass while took some pictures to the ruins. Do not forget to carry with water, fruit and some cookies. We booked a weekly vacation home in Playacar area and booked some activities (swim with dolphins and Xcaret) through www.rivieramayaweb.com. They were very easy to handle and they recommend me to choose this activities for us. There is a baby sitting service also available but it depends on you. Hope you have a great experience in the area. Saludos!! Silvia
