Hello, We are going to Messina on a cruise ship in October. Please can anyone help us what to see in Messina and how far are they from the cruise terminal. Thanks
hello, I went to Messina and I say to you that the city has not much to see but from Messina quickly you can go to Taormina, castelmola or tindary or etna. Unfortunately, the trains are not very efficient but there are many taxi company that makes excursions from the port of Messina. I can suggest to you the sicilytaxiservice.com, I called it and I went with my family in savoca, castelmola and taormina and before returning to the ship, the driver gave us a nice tour of the city of Messina, with a beautiful minivan with air conditioning we had a wonderful day in sicily. good luck

Yes, so true. A taxi van is the way to go. Messina has walkable sights to see from the port. See my Virtual Tourist review of Messina and the taxi experience at: members.virtualtourist.com/m...

silab, Messina is a port city and has more of a local feel and most cruise tourists will take a cruise ship's tour of Taormina. This is the highlight for most tourists due to the view, shopping, restaurants, and the one sight not to miss is Taormina's Roman Theater. But, it you want to stay in Messina proper, then I would suggest the Hop-on, Hop-off bus tour in the city as long as your cruise ship arrives in Messina before the 15th of October. Not that expensive and gives good opportunity to visit the Piazza del Duomo, which by the way you can walk to from the port dock area which is right in the center of the city just in case you arrive in Messina after October 15. The ticket office for the HoHo bus is also located at the Piazza del Duomo, only a few blocks from the cruise docks. The bell tower (campanile) has the world's largest astronomical clock and for a true delight be there at about 5 minutes to 12 noon. The several floors of the tall tower come alive with motion from the bronze figures. The lion will roar at 12 noon sharp. A cock crows and the many human bronze figures go around on their level of the tower to music. If in Messina, do not be late for this wonderful display on the 60m tower. A reminder that it begins at 12 noon. The Orion Fountain is in the Piazza and it was built in the middle 1500's. Look at the Virtual Tourists Travel Guide for Messina, Sicily for some ideas on what to do, see, and eat.
