We want to rent a car when we get off our cruise ship in Messina. Does anyone know if there are any nearby car rentals at decent prices? We arrive there on a Monday and want to go to Bronte. Will there be places open do you think in Bronte and other towns along the way? I assume they close for a few hours in the afternoon.
The cruise ships dock relatively close to the train station, scroll down page in this site: porto.messina.it/comearrivar... The car rentals are in Via Vittorio Emanuele, which is a few blocks from the port, see cruise-chat.com/eve/forums/a... The shops will be closed from 1 to 4 or 5 pm in the afternoon and then open until 8 or 9 pm.

Thank you for this info. Do you think the stores in Bronte would be open on Mondays? I read somewhere that many stores are closed on Mondays in Sicily? Thank you.

If they are closed, they are in the mornings as it is their half day off. They will probably be open in the afternoon.
