    • Safety and a Good Start

      Denver Apr 8, 2014 at 10:50 AM

I'm moving to Denver with my best friend, from New Orleans with NO car. We are going to take advantage of the transit lines. Can anyone point me in the direction of a safe and cheap part of town walking distance of the Transit line? Thank you, and we would love to meet y'all locals!

    • September Adventure Activities for 18 & 20 year old kids & mom

Rocky Mountain National Park Apr 10, 2014 at 1:37 PM

Going to spend a week at a cabin in Estes Park on the river. Although I want to do a lot of hiking & taking photoes & viewing wildlife, my kids are at the age where they also want adventures. They are both very physically fit, outdoorsy & extremely adventurous. In or around Rocky Mtn Park/Estes Park do they offer activities such as off road adventures with ATVs, Jeeps or Rzrs? Maybe some zipline courses through the forest? Rafting? Any other exciting activities? Thanks

A place to meet outside security at Denver Airport

      Denver Apr 5, 2014 at 7:59 PM

The Official Spousal Unit is heading to Denver Airport Monday morning on American. Once there, she will meet up with a co-worker coming in from Toronto on United, who will arrive an hour or so later.

The OSU will pick up checked luggage and wants to find a place like a food place to wait for an hour or so for her compatriot, preferably near the baggage claim and/or the Budget rental car desk.

However, she complained to me that after looking at the Denver Airport website, she couldn't figure out what was inside security and what was outside, nor why there were six levels (that seems to be at least three more than other airports).

I said that the Old Experienced Traveler would take a look...and heckfire if she isn't right - the Denver website is remarkably unclear about what's where. Sure, you know what level things are on, but what is airside and what is landside?

For example, is the Jeppesen Terminal largely landside? Is the food court on Level 6 inside or outside security? It seems like it is, but many US airports have virtually all their services inside security, and the wording here is remarkably fuzzy.

Or, to put it another way, if you had an hour to kill at 9 in the morning (or whatever) waiting for your ride to show up to go to the Budget counter, where would you wait for him nearby?

      Thanks!

      Bill

Logistics of touring Spruce Tree, Cliff house, Balcony House

by swdke Online Now May 12, 2010 at 12:24 PM

If I were to arrive at Mesa Verde Visitor's center early enough to obtain tickets for Cliff House, and Balcony House, assuming I could get tickets to both, and I also wanted to visit Spruce Tree, what would be the logistics of seeing all three in a day?

For example, of these three, which do I visit 1st, 2nd, 3rd?

How much time should I allow for each?

How much time is necessary to get from one tour, and be there in time for the next location's tour?

Has anyone managed to do these three in a day?

      Thanks for your help.

If I only have a day, how should I spend my day at Mesa Verde Natioal Park? What should I be sure to see and do, and what not to miss. Can you suggest an itinerary on how to plan out my day? Thanks!

What is drive time from Moab to Mesa Verde National Park? I've checked various online map web sites, but each gives a different answer. Thanks.

Mapquest shows driving time from the Tusayan, AZ to Cortez, Colorado as 4 1/2 hours. Does this seem accurate? How long does it take to take a detour to the Four Corners Monument?

      Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon and...?

by CesVT Online Now Aug 26, 2008 at 3:44 PM

Hi! After the VT Texas Meet on Sept. 27-28, I was thinking of flying west to a yet unidentified location (Santa Fe? Phoenix? Las Vegas?) where I could rent a car (unless public transportation could be an option, but I doubt it) and head to the Grand Canyon and Mesa Verde National Park, doing maybe some kind of loop and seeing other sights on the way (I have about 11 days)... Thing is, I have no idea what the roads and weather can be like in that area by late Sept.-early Oct. and I'd rather avoid heavy traffic... What then would be the best starting point?
Also, I'm not sure how much I can see in that time span, given that I'd really like to go to these 2 spots, but there seems to be a lot to see in that area... Any recommendation is welcome - also regarding guided tours and accommodation (I'm more or less on a budget)...
'Merci beaucoup' if you can help! :-)

      Which ranger guided tour?

by wendyjol Online Now Mar 24, 2008 at 3:47 AM

This summer we will visit Mesa Verde NP. We will be arriving at the park around 4 pm. We like to purchase tickets for a ranger led tour for the next morning.
Which tour do you suggest? Cliff palace, Balcony House or Long House. We are a family of four. Kids 13 and 15.

We have booked a room in the Far View Lodge. Any suggestions how to spend our evening in the Park?

After the ranger led tour we still have some time befor we leave for Monument Valley and Four State Corners. What should we not miss?

I'm going to Mesa Verde in April. I don't think the lodge is open yet. Will it be snowy? Any hot tips for hikes, motels, restaurants in the area?
