How hot and humid is the weather there in May?

Would there be a lot of rain at that time?

How convenient is it by bus from Merida to Chichen Itza and Uxmal?

Right now humidity goes around 50% percent during the day, expect days with 70% or even 90%, how does it feel? You feel sticky and the hair puffy.
Just keep drinking enough liquids and that will make it.

During May and the summer, there are usually 1 hr rains or downpours in the afternoon or evening.. so be prepare with thin poncho in a backpack. Well, sometimes with the heat, the water feels super fine.

May is the hottest month of the year, so expect to have temperatures of:
    95° F | 69° F Max
    35° C | 21° C Min..
Sometimes is even in the 40ºC..

The buses from Merida to Chichen or to Uxmal are very convinient, they are unexpensive, clean and safe most of the cases. You have two options, you can choose second or first class CAME or ADO, one terminal is almost in front of the other, they are very confortable most of the times, both are in downtown, a little bit to the south of downtown, You pay around 4 or 6 usd, i don't really remember the price, but it´s not more than 8 usd.. The trip to Chichen is about 2.30 hrs, almos the same from Merida to Uxmal.
The bus station, both of them, also advertise a tour leaving early in the morning..
The entrance fee for the arch. sites is about 3 - 4 usd.. It was 38 Mexican pesos last time I visited them.

Ah! The sites usually close at 5 pm, if you take the bus you might want to buy your returning ticket when you arrive to the site, in the case of chichen, they sell them in the book store, right to the entrance, the bus will pick you up right where it drop you, or probably next parking spot, depending. But make sure you ride it before the last one leaves.

In the case of Uxmal, the bus will drop you near the entrance, so you have to walk a bit, then to ride the bus back to merida, you have to walk to wherever it drop you, you can ask the driver to tell you when you arrive to uxmal, so when you want to return to the city, find the same spot but on this case, you have to go to the other side of the road to the bus stop, then when a bus passes, just wave to it to stop. That´s it, in 2.30hr you will be back to the city.

I could suggest you to take a look to the following link, it was very very very useful when I was living there: yucatantoday.com/transportat...

April and May are the hottest - and driest - months of the year. The vegetation goes into survival mode, shedding leaves and the whole countryside looks barren and there are many wildfires. There will not be a lot of rain.

Busses to the ruins can be had, it's probably a good idea to book a tour thru a hotel or agency in order to ensure your return trips. Or book a private car. Chichen is swarming with tourists from Cancun by 10:30 am so if you leave real early and are there by 9:00, you will have the ruins almost to yourself, the bothersome vendors are still setting up and it will be cooler too.

    Good luck!
