Transportation to the Melk Abby

by suebair8 Online Now May 23, 2010 at 3:51 PM

Is there a way to get up the hill to the abby besides walking? We are arriving by river boat. We thought we could save a little money by doing the optional trip on our own.

Well - a driver from Bali is hardly going to help someone in Austria! Go away before administration sends you away.

Not sure what you mean by "the optional trip" but it's not a strenuous walk up the hill from the boat to the Abbey. No need for special transport.

so you obviously try to avoid the high costs of the tour offered by your cruisecompany ?
Then you have to walk, its maybe 20 minutes and by that time you have seen the village of Melk as well.
Entrance to the monatsery is 7,70 without guided tour + 2-3 euros for the baroque gardens that are really worth it, mainly for the great pavillon with fancy frescoes and paintings.
b.t.w. Are you sure, that your ships STAYS in Melk ???
many ships go on to Krems and take back the guests from the tour there.
