Medan Travel Answers

There's been quite a few queries on Medan recently. Suggest you check the Medan forum? ;-)

Are you actually staying in Medan for 5 nights? Unless you have friends or relatives there who you are visiting, I don't know what you would do in Medan for 6 days. There are a few things to see - Sultan's Palace, Chinese Mansion, Hindu Temple, Grand Mosque - but these can all be done in one day. For that length of time there are several options outside Medan, for example, Bukit Lawang, Berastagi, Danau Toba. It would be good to know what you are interested in and then we may be able to offer a little more advice. Also, if you need help with ideas for hotels, you need to advise what your budget is.

No I will not be Medan for the whole trip. I prefer sightseeing rather than hiking. Question 1: should I stop in Medan the first day of arrival or last day before I head to the airport? I arrive in Medan about 2 afternoon Question 2: I plan to stop brastagi and lake toba. Mostly each stop for 2 days. Which should I stop first? As I read from your previous forums, to go lake toba I will passby brastagi, am I right? So should I stop at brastagi and head to lake toba then only make my way to Medan? Question 3: I am traveling alone. Do I need to attach myself to tour guide or it's possible to travel around myself? I have not much of experience of traveling. Question 4: I need some contact for transportation. I have tried contacting a few however they are looking for about at least a group of 4 and above. Question 5: As I see, brastagi is rather cold and so I hope to obtain some advice on the clothing I should be bringing. Thanks all!
