Hi, I'll be going to Dharamsala/Mc Leod Ganj for about a month in August. I'd like to inquire with you kind people about two things: 1) volunteer opportunities. I'm an English teacher and would love to do some volunteer teaching to buddhist nuns, monks or frmer political prisoners/exiles. I've tried to organize it online, but the communication's proved damn hard. I was told to just turn up and look for opportunities, but maybe those of you who've had these experiences could push me in the right direction? 2) I'll be looking for a good yoga centre, offering retreats or daily classes around there. Anyone's found a jewel that could be recommended? I'd really appreciate your help. Love and brown rice, magicwoman

Hi, Are there any places on the way between Delhi and McLeod Ganj that are worth stopping for? I'm debating between flying and taking a bus, and I would choose the latter if there are interesting things to see on the way. Also, what is the best way to get from McLeod Ganj to Leh? Thanks! -Alex

Is it about 50rs per hour ??? do i need to get some special cord/wire or somehting ??? I shall be paying a brief first time visit to McLeod Ganj in early November, coming from Dalhousie and travelling on to Shimla. I'll be travelling by bus but am finding the timetables on HRTC website none too helpful. Hi, My partner and I have a book to write and were thinking of mc leod ganj, to combine work with our spiritual search etc... We would go for the months of september october and november this year. Don't know if this is low or high season there...??? Is it possible to rent a decent room there long term and could anyone give us an idea of prices (room and food per day per person) We thought of buying a portable solar panel for running the laptop independently from local electricity - I heard uncertain. I will arrive Dharamsala by flight around mid Sept and need replies to following: 1)How far is Dharmasala town from Dharamsala airport? How much would be the taxi fare from the airport to the town?Or there other modes of transport other than taxis? 2)I wish to stay in guest houses or hotels/lodges located in a quiet surroundings. Would love to visit McLeod Ganj this January and hopefully do some hiking to explore region.Is this feasible for January? Spending a month in India and hoping to catch a feel of Himalayas,even though it's winter.

Dear all, May I know if I can take any bus from Chakki Bank to McLeod Ganj? I will be taking Hemkunt Express from Rishikesh and arriving at Chakki Bank @ 4am in the morning? I have an upcoming 5 day trip to Amritsar and Dharamsala planned: Lahore, Pakistan to Amritsar, early Wednesday morning and overnight - see the Golden Temple, Thursday to Dharamsala for 3 nights and return to Lahore on Sunday. I think I've got the idea on how to get to Amritsar from Lahore. Could anyone be kind enough to advise me on how to get to Dharamsala from Amritsar? I am coming out to Macleod Gange in April 2006 with my husband and two children aged 8 and 13. It is their first time in India. I was going to book at Chonor House but i know it is pricey. As there are four of us, money is a bit of an issue. Do you think it is best to pay more and make sure my family have the very best rooms or do you think there are cheaper hotels where they would still feel they had great rooms and service? Hello, We are hoping to visit McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala, Chamba, Kalpa, Sarahan, and the Sangla Valley (Sangla, Rakcham, Chitkul) in March 2005. What should we expect in terms of weather for that period of the year? Do you see any problems in going to these places? What other places inside Himachal Pradesh would you highly recommend in March and why? We enjoy day hikes, love beautiful mountain scenery, and appreciate meeting friendly people.
