by ken4183 Online Now Oct 19, 2005 at 6:41 PM

I'm going to Kenya thae last 2 weeks in January. Do I need to book a 5 day safari in advance or can I book when I get there. Any suggestions on moderately priced tours. Where can anyone suggest that we stay, is camping a good option? Is Masai Mara the best place to do a safari? What other areas and activities are highly recommended. alot of questions thanks for your help

We have done much research for Travel/Safari Tours in Africa and have decided to go with Lion World Travel, located in Canada. Jan 18,2006. Our contact is Nela Vari. The costs for travel to Africa is quite high compared to travel to other areas of the world. You will need various shots, Passport (of course), Visa from the Embassy , Kenya, the form can be downloaded fron the Embassy's web site, and when you submit same, a copy of your travel docs to Kenya. Their other requirements are also listed on their web site. You do not indicate if you have booked your Air Tickets yet and if you wish to have Insurance for travel delay etc. Good Luck and let us know what you think if you contact Nela. Joe & Kathy Boyer

You can do either. We arranged in advance and were very glad we did because we got a private safari, great driver, tailored to what we wanted and very reasonable price. I can recommend shoor safaris see - http://www.shoortravel.com/ I would also recommend the Mara - it is a truly special place on the planet - just wonderful. We stayed at Fig Tree Camp which is wonderful - shoor travel will arrange it all and will arrange internal flights to Nairobi if you are staying in Mombasa. The diving is great too so if you fancy that it's definately worth it. You can see whale sharks, dolphins and a whole lot more. If not try a snorkelling trip arranged through one of the hotels. Have a great time, Kenya is such a wonderful country.

you can book in advance or at the place, but i advise you to book when you are there and not with your western travelagent, but with the local, some i know on the north coast"north coast safary" is very good...we were in kenya twice and booked it with our friend roger we made there...you can do this on the beach(make sure you choose the right people to book with, you can ask some guests in th hotel who already went on a safari or something) or you can do this in their local office(the road to malindi)...i advise you to stay on the north coast, cause it's more touristic and there is more to see...a good hotel is travellers beach(club&hotel)...if you book your safri and hotel in your country you will have to pay alot while you can book it much cheaper and with the same offers...we went to tsavo east, tsavo west and amboseli through the pas t2 years, i suggest amboseli(with the best view ever on the kilimanjaro), but if you stay in mombasa it's a long travel so i suggest to combine it with an other safari park...we did tsavo east and amboseli in 3 days its a rough road ahaid but it's worth it...they masai mara is the most famous one, but i haven't been there yet, cause it was the most expensive, maybe i will do this one in a few years...good luck on your trip, kenya gets under your skin and stays there for life...
