      My Nice trip queries

      Nice Aug 15, 2015 at 2:01 AM

I have the following queries regarding my trip next week - please help!

      - I will be in Nice on sunday and monday. Cours saleya market was only half-a-day on sunday and not open on Monday. I will have around 30-45 mins to spend at this place before close. Will this place at it best being closing time or they would have wind-up everything at the close time.

      - I find from map that I may need to travel 1.5 to 2kms between my wish list places few times. Tram is not helping much as google maps shows walk + tram is almost same as walking the distance fully. Being with my daughters aged 10 and 6, I find the planned walking distance too much for a day - if I want to use taxi less than 2km, how much will they charge me - are taxi ranks common.

Where to get off the bus in the Camargue?

      Arles Aug 1, 2015 at 3:55 AM

I have looked over answers given to 'BeckyR9' on where to visit by public transport in the Arles area. We are hoping to look around Arles in the morning and take public transport into the Camargue, for a walk along the paths through the lagoons, in the afternoon. We have no wish to travel all the way to St Maries de la Mer so can anyone suggest where we should get off the bus enroute? More for the wild life and ambiance of the landscape if that is possible. (a few horses and flamingoes would be a bonus)

Walk from Les Baumettes to Calanque de Sormiou

by chrisdScotland Online Now Jul 7, 2015 at 5:49 AM

Can anyone tell me if there is an obvious walking path from where the number 22 bus drops you in Les Baumettes down to Calanque de Sormiou? The path I can see on Google maps looks obvious enough but, although we are fit enough to pick our way over rough terrain, we don't want to guess our route down and up again. We will be on foot but I read in information that, in the summer months, people have to walk some distance from car parks down to this area anyway. (I think this is pertains to the road from the other direction) Any first hand information out there?

      Voyages-sncf Tickets

by chrisdScotland Online Now May 16, 2015 at 2:44 PM

I hope to take a train from Marseille to Lyon - morning of 5th September. Last Saturday (9th May) I was on the Voyages-sncf site to see how near to that date they were taking booking. I found they were taking bookings up to Sunday 30th August. I thought that would mean today, a week later, they would possibly be up to my date but it's still only up to 30th August. I know it is usually only 3 months ahead you can book. I have asked that they send me a message when tickets go on sale but is that really likely to be another 3 weeks time?

Not City Pass, but Transportation Pass

by Sandypaws3 Online Now Feb 2, 2015 at 8:11 AM

We'd like to purchase a 24 hour transportation pass in Marseille. According to what I've read the pass -- don't know the name -- is similar to the Mobilis Pass in Paris. However, it seems that like the Paris Visite, the City Pass is pushed to tourists. We wouldn't mind purchasing the City Pass if we were going to be there longer, but we're not -- only enough time to walk around and see a few things, in addition to dining in a restaurant. Where can one purchase the 24 hours, 5 Euros (or thereabouts) transportation pass, not the City Pass? Thanks!

Can anyone help me with car parking outside Marseille?

by Archway Online Now Sep 21, 2014 at 5:47 AM

      Hi,

I wonder if anyone could recommend a safe place to park (public car park) east or southeast of Marseille? It should be close to a station or bus route so that we can get into Marseille. I do not want to take our car into Marseille.

We are ideally looking for somewhere in La Valentine as we'll be visiting some shops there. We would then like to leave our car in the area to go into Marseille for half a day, maybe 5 or six hours. I don't think we can just leave our car in the car park of a shop. We know that there is a bus that runs through La Valentine to Marseille i.e. bus no. 50 [Castellane - Les Escourtines] so any public car park that is safe in the area would be our first choice.

      Many thanks

      Consigne Bagages at Marseille Saint-Charles

by elisabethsb Online Now Jun 25, 2014 at 1:48 AM

Bonjour! I will be arriving at the Gare de Marseille Saint-Charles tomorrow afternoon and hope to check my suitcase at the consigne automatique before continuing to my next destination (a day trip to La Ciotat). I've read a lot about how this process works, how much it costs, where it's located, etc ... but I haven't been able to find any information about how much TIME it takes. I know that there is a metal detector/security procedure involved, so I imagine that it is not the speediest process in the world.

My current ticket only allows me 20 minutes in between my arrival at Gare Saint-Charles and my departure via regional train to La Ciotat. Will this be enough time to check a bag at the consigne automatique and run to my train??

      Thank you,
      Elisabeth

      Is Marseille worth the visit?

I am planning an itineraryin France, and I found out a very cheap train that goes from the train station at Disneyland to: Marseille, Avignon or Montepllier (10euros each) I think it is a good way to get closer to Spain for a few euros, so I am considering to spend a day in Marseille. Is it worth the visit? I would also like to see Cracassonne since I will be in the south of France. Any other place you suggest?

To be honest I would like to find a private tour that would take us to Calanques, Cassis and Marsielle.....is this possible or even to see any parts of the French Riviera really? I will have 3 adults and 2 kids with us. Maybe the best tour should be half a day.....So Is there any tours you recommend from Marseille that will take you around> Our ship is MSC Cruises Splendida and they do offer Cassis, Marseille, etc,,,,but I want the kids to enjoy too and I want to know which city Or town is worth the excursion.....

      Getting to Barcelona

by AllieK Online Now Jan 5, 2014 at 12:46 PM

      Hey!
After abit of research I have discovered that there is no direct trains from Marseille to Barcelona. I am looking to travel on the 23rd of April (after Easter weekend). I contacted the train company and they said the only way to do it is travel to Port Bou, then stay overnight and continue on with the journey the next day. This made me also look at flying. I am not sure which one would cost less as i'm on a budget but I am very exciting for seeing Provence and don't want to have to get it out of my itinerary.

Has anyone done this route and have any other suggestions on how to get there? It doesn't look like Eurolines has any ether.
      Bus or Train travel?
Are both of these airports easy access to the city centre?
      Any thoughts!

      Thanks guys!

I'm planning to start my journey from Marseille and visit Aix and if possible go up to Cavaillon and explore Le Petit Luberon. Do you think I should definitely rent a car for visiting les Calanques, Cassis and the small villages of Luberon or can I just take the train/bus combination out of Marseille or Aix?

So perhaps two or three days to visit les calanques (a boat excursion?) and cassis for swimming and sun bathing and spend the rest of the trip (5-6 days) visiting the local markets, eating excellent food, wine tasting and exploring the cultural sites?

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

by FairfaxVA Online Now Sep 18, 2013 at 4:52 AM

We extend and spend 2 nights in Marseille before our cruise on Oct 5, to explore the area and more specifically, to see at least 5 Calanques. Where should we go for the best scenery? should we take the boat tour from Marseille or from Cassis? Some reviews say that the 3 most gorgeous ones are in Cassis En-Vau, Port Miou and Port Pin. Other reviews suggested Sugiton, Morgiou and Sormiou for the more dramatic, scenic coast line. Thanks for your input.

by mohit9382 Online Now Aug 12, 2013 at 11:40 PM

      Hi

We are planning to visit the Provence in August this year and will be staying in Avignon. As part of this trip we would like to see the Calanques. I looked up on the net and the only way to visit them is to travel to Marseille. There is good train connectivity between Avignon and Marseille, so i think we can manage to see the Calanques in a day.

I just wanted some advice on what is the best way to see them ? I looked up in the forum and there are some boat trips from marseille. Should we take them or travel to cassis and then take a boat. I would appreciate if you can provide some guidance.

Also do you think it will take the whole day to visit the calanques so that we can plan to see few places in marseille as well.

Thanks in advance for your help.
