Hello Egypt experts!
Greetings from Italy and nice to meet you.
I plan to travel to Egypt in late January 2014 for 3 wks and
would like to hear your advice.
I enjoy historical sights/small villages (not so interested
in European beach resorts) and would love to include
a 2-4 day side trip to Jordan from Sinai via ferry.
Thanks in advance and would love to hear from you soon.
Ciao e a presto!
Paul Kim from Italy
Hi, My partner and I are traveling to Sharm for 2 weeks in January. I have checked the FCO and can see that Sharm is Green, however I am a little concerned at the news that the change comes on the same day that a report revealed that police in Egypt had foiled a plot by al-Qaida-linked militants to attack tourists in the popular Red Sea coastal resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. The Mirror said the attack, involving firearms and rocket-propelled grenades, had been planned for Christmas.
I have booked, and cannot get a refund, so I want to make sure that it will be safe to go, I don't want a holiday worrying, or worse!
Hi all, i`m in sharm for 21 days and i`m also doing the jerusalem/petra 2 day tour, which includes visa
so.... when i arrive at sharm airport,do i just get my usual $15 dollar visa or is there another visa i need to get?
thanks for any replies,regards-gargoylesrus.
My friend and I are in our 20s and are coming to Sharm for NYE. Does anyone know if Pacha or Space are any good on NYE. what about the hotels, is there one that does a great show? Thanks
We are family of 3 (self, husband and 8 yo son) planning a trip to Egypt during April 2014. We are in the UK. To make things easy on ourselves (and safe) I plan to use Tour operators for most if not all sight seeing in Egypt. I'm looking for help to finalize the itinerary before I book the flight and hotels.
Day 1 - arrive from UK to Cairo late in the evening
Day 2- Viator's one day tour of pyramids, Khan market and Cairo museum. Overnight sleeper train to Luxor
Day 3 - 8 Viator's five day Nile Cruise that covers Luxor West Bank, east bank, Esna and Aswan. Overnight train back to Cairo
Day 9 - return to UK
1) this is the first time I will be using a tour operator - primarily due to security considerations. Viator was an easy choice but if you can suggest a reliable operator who will provide a similar sort of experience and variety, please suggest
2) keeping Cairo to just 1 day due to the ongoing political issues. Can you suggest a good hotel in Cairo?
3) anything else I have failed to consider in putting this trip together?
Hi i have a family meber who wil be traveling to sharm el sheikh in december 2013, bt i am really worried becuz of the rioting. Has ther been any rioting of any sort in sharm el sheikh? Is sharm el sheike safe to travel too at the moment. I myself came to sharm el shaikh in february 2013 and it ws lovly..
Hello. I am coming to Sharm next week from the U.K. and staying at Sea Club Aqua Park, Nabq bay. I have not yet arranged what I am going to do about getting my foreign currency. I have heard that I would probably get much better rates of exchange in Sharm itself rather than in the UK. Is this true? (Post office is currently offering exchange rate of 10.06)
Would I be better bringing UK Sterling and exchanging what I need in Sharm? If so are there plenty of bureau de change's around nabq bay?
Many thanks for any replies.
I have some friends in Egypt, and I'd like to go there on December but my parents don't think tis safe, is it?
I will be travelling to Cairo next week and was wondering if anyone can recommend a company or tour guide that does private tours of the pyramids and is knowledgeable about the city. I would feel safer before I left knowing a guide would be able to show me around the city. Thank you VT friends!
As I'm getting a bit bored reading questions about Egypt and safety, I thought I'd ask a question that's going to be important to me in a year or two. We're planning on a return visit to Egypt when the Grand Egyptian Museum is opened. It was originally slated for 2014, then 2015 but news seems to have dried up. Does any know how things are going?
I'm hoping there's not been as much building work at Giza since Khufu turned to his chief architect and said something like "y'know, I really fancy something big here. I was thinking in terms of triangles...", but news on progress seems very scarce since late 2012.
To all seasoned Egyptologists here.
I am planning to visit Cairo in January 2014 for a week or so and I intend to cover Cairo, Nile Cruise (Aswan/Hurghada), Luxor, Alexandria and Sharm El Sheikh.
I know one can not foretell the future, but considering the current situation, does it look like to be a good time for the foreign tourists to visit this summer?
Also, can anyone help me out to give a readymade itinerary for 7 days and a rough indication of cost?
I am an Indian holding a US PP. Visiting Egypt had been one of my greatest desires. I and my kids (22 yr. old son and 14.yr old. daughter) were trying to make Christmas/ New Year vacation plans. I suggested Egypt, but my son is scared of the prevailing atmosphere. I told him as long as we avoid the trouble spots - we should be fine. Am I right? Is it safe to go? Are all the attractions open? I don't want to miss major attractions. Any advice from Egyptians, or people who have been there just over the last few months would greatly help. Thanks a ton... in advance. I need to book in just 1-2 days.
anyone know where one would get a bus from Cairo to Marsa Mutruh and back again also the times and if the buses are frequent .also hotels are they plentyfull, Are there bars and restaurants to eat at .and is it safe to walk along the beach tops ,I was thinking around xmas or just after for a couple of days
Hi Eclipse People,
I too am going to see the eclipse. I've been thinking about this eclipse ever since 1999 when i tried to see the eclipse in Europe but it was cloudy. I'm very excited.
Does anyone know yet if we will be able to be on the plateau west of Sallum? If not, can we get a special permit? Can we just hike up there and camp? Does anyone want to join me?
It looks like the hotels in this area are filling up fast for this event.
Anyone know of a three-five star hotel with availability MArch 28-29,2006?
Or alternatively, how long is the drive from Alexandria to Saluum, and how about a good hotel in Alexandria?
