Hi I am arriving in Marrakech via train from Cassablanca on the 24th August. I am a single women arriving at around 6pm. Will it be easy for me to get a taxi to my hotel....and are there any tips people can share to help me get there safety. Many thanks
I can't comment on safety for single women in Marrakech (I'm neither single nor a women), but I had a few taxi trips. Marrakech has two types of taxi - small cars that will take two or three people and bigger ones that all seemed to be ancient Mercedes. The latter are more expensive, but I found that when it came to arguing over price the presence of smaller taxis generally meant I got the cheaper rate in a Mercedes. The taxi drivers I used all spoke enough English that I didn't have to resort to (my rather hopeless) French. I always made sure the meter worked or since I was going to/from the airport I just agreed the price before I started. As for finding a taxi, I'm sure there won't be a problem. As I recall, the city was full of them. Your arrival date/time means it will still be daylight which I think always helps with confidence and safety.

Brillaint advice. Thank you. I didnt even think about daylight etc. Ive never had to haggle for a taxi before. In New Zealand we dont tip or barter....so its always a challenge when I travel as I normally forget. Your advice is really appreciated....after 48 hours of travel to get to Marakesh....Im hoping it will be straight forward to get to my hotel. :-)

It will take no more than 10 minutes to get from the train station to Hivernage, traffic permitting. Just insist that the taxi driver uses his meter, or remember to ask the price first, in reality it should cost no more than 25dh,
