family friendly restaurants in Marrakesh

by monicarc Online Now Jun 13, 2011 at 7:22 AM

Just wondering if anyone has recomendations for family friendly restaurants in Marrakesh--ie bringing in a small stroller isn't a problem and/or having a 3 year old. Also, do either the comptoir darna and/or la mammounia have lunch service, where bringing in small children is acceptable?? Thanks

Hi, Moroccans are very family oriented and there are many places that are geared up for Moroccan families to have outings to - Pretty much everywhere is family friendly in Marrakech - unless theres no room to physically fit into the restaurant, or cafe restaurants such as Cafe France with 2-3 floors of steep stairs to get up or if its a place that is really for say men to hang out for a siesta time during the day or after work - you will get obvious idea of course if you see other families in the restaurant already - Moroccans generally love children and I think since fairly hard economic times over the last few years love and appreciate tourists coming into their businesses.

we took a friend of mine with her 8 year daughter and 6month old son on their first trip to Morocco for a stress break from London and drove them up to Marrakech to fly out of the country from there and arrived in time to give them a walk through the main square Djma Elfna for a look and a meal - we took them to one of our favourites Cafe Toubkal as its good value, easy to get to, has views out to the square, usually decent toilets and a bit of a view of the sunset. Although the 1st floor was being mopped and cleaned and no other customers were up there, downstairs tables were almost all taken, as we had the baby and required the toilets for baby change they were fine about us being seated up on the 1st floor and even helped with carrying the pushchair up the stairs and checked that the toilet area was clean.

I havent been to La Mamounia for lunch - have been for cocktails and to see the beautiful Art Deco decor and gardens but their excellent website www.mamounia.com says in addition to evening meals their French restaurant is open for lunch Thurs-Sun, Italian restaurant for lunch Mon-Wed, the Moroccan restaurant is only open for evening meals, the restaurant around the swimming pool is open for lunch daily depending on the weather.

hope this helps and have a wonderful - there are quite a few vt travel pages for Marrakech and Morocco that Im sure will make helpful reading for you too!
