How to get to Palazzo del Te

by HenriettaStackpole Online Now Apr 29, 2009 at 2:22 PM

Could someone please tell me if there's public transportation to Palazzo del Te from the center of Mantova? Or is it an easy walk? Thanks!

Mantova is very small. At easy speed, it is not more than 15 or 20 minutes walking. There are probably buses, but i never considered to study the timetables.

Well, first, I have not been here, but in looking at the maps, the Palazzo Te website, and the public transportation website, it's clear that the "LINEA CIRCOLARE" (i.e., a bus that makes a big circle through town all day long), has several stops a couple of blocks away along Viale Risorgimento or Viale Repubblica. I can't tell exactly the best stop, but these two streets (really, the same street that changes names) run parallel to the Palazzo Te grounds for a way.

The Palazzo's website (centropalazzote.it/contatti2... - only in Italian) doesn't mention which bus stops are nearby.

In any case, using this bus, you have maybe a couple of hundreds meters to walk. Other buses might go even closer - I am sure you can find out when you get there.

Oh, I don't know what you mean by "center of Mantova", but one of the stops of the Circolare is the train station. Also, if you mean maybe City Hall as the center, it's probably less than a 2 kilometer walk (20-30 minutes) out to the Palazzo Te, all of which is in the city. It doesn't look like it's way out in the country...

    Francesco, l'ho fatto io!!!! (cio'e', trovato la linea ;-) ... )

Francesco lives in a nearby town, and I am sure that he is right that the town isn't very big, and since the Palazzo is clearly in the town according to the maps, you shouldn't have a problem ;-)

    Bravo Bill!
I was a lazy boy... but really i walked the way twice in the last three years (one with maybe 32° C and full sun) and it's very doable.

The very center of mantova is between Piazze delle Erbe and Piazza Sordello... no doubt! ;-)

Palazzo Te is a bit out of the way from the main part of Mantua Piazza Sordello, which is where the churces, other palace, and Rotundo San Lorenzo are. It is closer to the house of Andrea Mantegna and the soccer stadium. If you enter by car, it is easy to find. If you come by train, when you come out of the station and make a right - a map will show you the path.

great - the entire city is walkable but it will depend on temperature and time you have - but it is a city that you will not regret seeing - romeo and juliet was filmed here, and there is great history of the gonzaga family and the art of andrea mantegna adds to the aura of the place

Yes, the food is great. The local specialty is pumpkin tortelli (or ravioli). A local friend once made me try this restaurant:

    It was very good!
