Staying for 3 months - What to do?

I will be staying in Mannheim for about 3 months for business. I'll be living in a hotel. Any recommendations on what to do on the weekends? I want to see to other cities in Europe, so how feasible is it to make weekend trips to typical Europeans tourist cities? Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Berlin,Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam are just a few hours by train from Mannheim, Switzerland is very close,too. About one hour south of Mannheim there is Baden Airport,about one hour and a half to Hahn Airport. Both are used by the budget airlines. A weekend trip to London,Rome or Venice would be no problem at all. check www.bahn.de for trains, www.whichbudget.com for flights
