The Travel Ssction of the Saturday Guardian Newpsaper usually carries several advert for Malta holidays including holidays of 28 days and more aimed at older holidaymakers. Last Saturday was an Italy special so there were fewer in it. I would think there would be similar ads on the travel pages ofthe Scotsman if you don't get the Guardian.
From memory these are some of the ones I recall -

    http://www.chevron.co.uk/

    http://malta-bargains.co.uk/

    http://www.maltadirect.com/

    http://www.maltadirect.com/glasgow

The last link above deals with flights from Glasgow to Malta.

I think it is better to book a package holiday in Malta. I did it all the times I went there. This is my opinion, of course.

I've travelled to Malta three times, one on a package holiday and twice organising it independently.

I much prefer the latter, and have found it much cheaper (although I travel alone, which is always a problem with package costs).

Can I suggest you explore the option of taking a budget flight and booking your own hotel?

www.skyscanner.net will give you all carriers from any UK airport for your route and dates.

The Osbourne Hotel in Valletta is super:

and Duncan's in Marsaxlokk very good value (although you will be better off if you hire a car):

You can always check for cheaper packages on www.lastminute.com...it doesn't have to be *absolutely* last minute. Also sites such as www.latedeals.co.uk and even Teletext: http://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/

Most package hol providers also have a 'late deals/late availability' section.

Of course, always make sure your holiday dates are outside UK school holidays. It akes a huge difference to prices. :-)

I have arranged our own the last 2 visits and found it much cheaper. It is always best to compare what you arrange with packages from Chevron and other companies, just to make sure. Ryanair, not my favourite airline, do direct flights to Malta from Prestwick and Edinburgh.

    Hello,

I did go to Malta with 2 friends in May. We used Low cost holidays and booked the flights and hotel separately it was the best value holiday to Malta that I have ever had.
We went with Ryan air from Edinburgh and as long as you only take cabin baggage you can get a good deal with them, we booked the San Paul hotel in Buggiba half board it is a budget hotel but great value for money at less than £100.00 for 7 nights it is not not the best hotel I have been to but it was clean and the food was very good.

I may go again later this year but the prices seem to have gone up quite a bit could it be that prices are lower early in the year?

    Thanks everyone for your advice.

Glad you had a good time!

You are right that prices are lower in the early months of the year (excluding the weeks around Christmas and New Year). From now (leading up to Easter) onwards you are hitting the mid-high season prices.

Plus Malta is in the same economic mess as most of the other European countries (and it uses the euro). Price rises are inevitable in such circs.

You'll find lower prices again in Nov and the early part of Dec, probably,...and maybe late October too, but avoid the UK half-terms hols.

Thanks for that it is just as I thought.
I hope to go again sometime this year so I will be looking for a good deal, the main problem is the hotels, the quality of hotels in Malta is a bit hit and miss so I will keep looking for advice and recommendations.
