Not sure about the weather as we went in the high-season. The following was our experience at that time of year.
We LOVED Qwara - it was just busy-enough to have decent nightlife but wasn't the trashy sort of resort that can be experienced in some other countries.
There is a main "square" which sort-of separates Qwara and Buggibba with a selection of lively bars. The whole resort is easlily walk-able and the sea front has a couple of clubs, plenty of bars and restaurants, and with shops and bars on the other side of the road also.
One huge advantage was that there is a small bus station where you can direct buses to several of the islands' main sights without first having to go-through Valetta. It is not a huge pain doing-so but it saves a bit of time. Valetta itself is a lovely city and worth a whole day at least.
Qwara doesn't have much of a beach area - a smallish area on the other side of the headland where locals have their beach huts but it isnt a great beach. There are lots of flat rocky areas for bathing and sunbathing if you don't mind that sort of thing.
The bus to St Julian's goes-past a water park but not sure what that would be like in April.
We stayed in the Hotel Santana which was smashing. In the streets around this hotel and the bus station, there are other shops and restaurants. I think there was a casino there too but I can't remember too much about that!
We loved it there and would definitely go-back. If you want to visit Gozo, then I would take an organised trip as transpot there isn't up to much and you would waste too much of the day waiting for buses etc.
Read up before you go - there are lots of places to see and the buses are brilliant.

    Hi there,

So first of all it's Qawra not Qwara :) that might help you more when doing your research! Also Qawra is the name of the town and not a resort. It is mostly a summery place where many locals have summer houses there. It is also invaded by foreigners - mostly Brits and ex-pats in summer. April will be a bit quieter, but there's a very good chance of sunshine in most of April so it should still be nice. The area is exactly as described by the previous poster - lots of bars, pubs and restaurants and some nightclubs ...and yes a casino at the Dolmen Hotel. So it depends what you're after really. There is a bus terminus in Qawra - the buses have been totally revamped since July 2011 so you no longer need to go into Valletta to connect to other places (and they have improved greatly in Gozo making it easy to get around now).

If you want to list what type of things/sights you are interested I would be able to help you further as to whether Qawra would be a good base for you or not.

Anyways - we loved in in Qawra.
