How is the weather in September

Good night I am to organize a trip to Senegal, Guiné Bissau and Mali in September, however, I have been informed that September is the time of the rains and that the passage for the secondary highways becomes almost impossible, with many holes and a lot of mud. I liked to know which the best months to visit in 4x4 and which the months to avoid.
