Honeymoon

by PocketRocket Online Now May 17, 2011 at 4:31 AM

Hi There,

My fiance and I are getting married at the end of March 2012. We are thinking about the possibility of having our honeymoon in the Maldives. As we've never been on a warm/summer holiday together (only ever winter) I really like the idea of beach hut accommodation, somewhere where I can get pampered with massages everyday and sip pina coladas by the beach. Can any suggest fabulous hut accommodation and touristy things to do and the best area to stay in.

Thanks

Lisa

In the Maldives, each island is its own resort and, usually, you spend your week/10 days/fortnight on that island, only leaving to perhaps do an island hopping excursion, diving or a shopping excursion.

I have stayed at Kurumathi, Reethi Beach and Equator Village - all reviewed on my Maldives pages. If you're looking for somewhere with the opportunity to mingle with locals and get off the island on a number of snorkelling tours, I would recommend Equator Village on Gan. However, I make this recommendation on those criteria and not on your request for a beach hut as the accommodation is the old Sergeant's Quarters of this, once, RAF base.

Please feel free to contact me directly on VT mail for any further queries and/or review my Maldives information for more.

Thanks for your response. Initially we were thinking Thailand, however I decided that I would like something a little more upper class than Thailand and to go there one day on one of my budget holidays.

I have been to the Greek Islands before and I love the idea of Island hopping. I would also like to do the same thing in the Maldives. My fiance and I are fairly social people and we like the idea of meeting and socialising with others along with spending some good quality time together. Shopping would be nice but not high on my priority list. What is high on my priority list is getting pampered with massages, facials etc and sipping cocktails. I also love the idea of snorkelling and doing all the touristy things. Whilst I want a relaxing holidays I am not good at sitting still for too long either. So a nice balance of activities would be nice also.

Not really sure what our budget is. We are not on a tight budget, however we do't want to go over the top either. Definitely love the idea of water accommodation, only I just don't know where to start looking.

    Thanks again

    Lisa

Lisa, there are a couple of options available in the Maldives to do live-aboard cruising round islands and a mixture of live-aboard and resort based. Worth doing the research - haven't tried them myself. Both Reethi Beach and Kuramathi have good spas.
