I will be driving from Portland to St. John, NB, Canada via Augusta, Bangor, etc. I have a couple of hours available. Anything along the way interesting/worth stopping to see?
From Sarasota FL and I will have one day to spend in Portland in early May. Any suggestions?
I want to take a carriage ride in the park. The carriage company offers a Day Mountain Summit (2 hr) and a Bridge (2hr) tour. Any recommendations?
Thanks
I will be in Maine at the end of August and will travel between Portland and Lubec. Can anyone recommend a good whale watching tour I can take anwhere along that route? Thanks
I love to collect seaglass and will be visiting Bar Harbor in July of this year. Are there specific beaches I should visit where seaglass may be more abundant?
I am planning my first visit to coastal Maine at the end of June 2013. I will have 5 nights to spend and need help determining the best location. I was thinking of either staying in one spot as a home base or possibly 3 nights in one spot and 2 nights in another. I would like a picturesque spot on the less-touisty side while still having restaurants accesible. We plan on a day trip as far north as Acadia National Park. Any ideas or favorite spots?
Hello, I'm planning a trip for Fall 2013. We're coming from near the Buffalo, NY area and don't want to spend 10 hours in the car, so I'm looking at the Southern coastal area of Maine - possibly as far north as Portland/Bath. I'd like to spend 2-3 days in two or three different locations (though with the right location, staying an entire week instead is fine too). We are antique shop lovers and also lobster lovers! Can anyone suggest a few hotels/B&B's, restaurants, towns to visit and any other good info you can share. Thanks so much!
Hi! We'll be passing through Portland in late November and would love to get a lobster roll. Anything available then that's good? Thanks!

My friend and I are planning a camping trip to maine next year. I backpacked in baxter state park 30 years ago and we stayed in lean-tos along the trail. I am wondering if you can plan a trip without a tent and reserve the lean-tos at 5 to 6 mile intervals? Also, any advise on good trails and campsites appreciated. When would be the best time to avoid crowds, but hopefully blackfies too? I'm thinking a 4 - 5 night loop if possible, or stay at one or two camps and do day hikes from there. We would be interested in easy to moderate hikes for the most part. Thanks
During July, are there any planned commemorative events planned around the 50th anniversary of the launch of Telstar I and its early successes? I am particularly interested in the first satellite transmission of color TV from Goonhilly, Cornwall in the UK to Andover, Maine, in the US on 17 July 1962, as I plan to be in DC for a Telstar forum on 12 July and would need another couple days to drive to Andover. Thanks for any help which anyone is able to provide. Currently my itinerary is to drive from Charlotte to DC late on the 11th as I am attending a dinner honoring the amazingly long tenure of my college track and cross country coach that evening. By the time the DC forum is over, I expect to be very tired and would like to get a very good night's rest before heading for what I anticipate to be a wonderful part of Maine which I have not previously visited.
Will be traveling from Sqwam Lake, NH to Maine on Aug. 23rd. So I have from the 23rd till the 28th to tour Maine. We need to return to Boston on the 29th. I will be traveling with my 19 year old daughter. We would appreciate an insiders' opinion of what to see, what to give a miss, where to go and where to stay. Any input would be welcomed. We both are adventurous, and outgoing and love to discover new things, eat good and local chow and meet new people. Thank you in advance for your help.
Planning on a camping trip towards the end of August. We do not have a time schedule. We will be driving from VA taking non interstate as much as possible. We like campgrounds that are not crowded and prefer them to have at least a shower. Looking for tips and pointers of what to see, do and "hole in the wall" non franchised diners. Peace.
Girls' getaway: Where is a good place to go for drinks and music / dancing that is suitable for a group in their early 30's? We really don't want to feel like babysitters in a university bar...somewhere fun, but neither too young nor too old. Any suggestions?
I will be staying in Guildsboro with my extended family(15 children) for a week in August. This is near Winter harbor. How long will it take me to travel to Bar Harbor and the main park(by car or by ferry) What activities can be suggested with the kids? I read about the Whale Schooner-is it appropriate for children also? Are there other sites nearby? Thanks Nech

Hello all! I am graduating from college and my family wishes to rent a cottage in Maine this August as send-off. I will be traveling with my parents and my sister for a week, give or take a day. There seem to be ton of options for cottage rentals, can anyone help us narrow it down? We are looking for: - a relatively nice and private cottage, - South Coast or Midcoast, - Not too busy of a town, - ideally on an island near a town but not in the middle of it. - we don't need a sandy beach; rocky beaches and nice scenery are good enough! Where should we start looking? Also, does anyone know a good website for cottage rentals? There seem to be a lot, and I'm not sure which ones are trustworthy... Thanks, David
Good morning! I'm doing a Maine Coast bike trip in September. Trying to get from Vinalhaven Island to Stonington on Deer Isle with my bike via boat. Suprised there is no regular ferry or water taxi for that hop. Charter would cost me around400. Hoping I can find a few other people to split the cost. Let me know if you're interested. Flexible on date & time. Ken
Planning on a few days here: http://bit.ly/mTBNza, toward the end of the trip, but needing additional ideas of spots throughout the state. Want to see as much as the state as possible, and will have car. Flying into PWM, and ending the week at the Inn. Worth venturing all the way up North? and driving the border/coast down? or focus more on coast-only? Thank you in advance for the ideas!
Where OH where are the dancing venues in Portland, Scarborough, South Portland area? We are looking for Latin dancing like Salsa, Tango, Meringue and the like. So far all the night spots we have found are more involved with eating, drinking and sports. Those are fun too, but we are looking for a night club with a real dance floor for an older than College age crowd. Can anyone help us?
I sit in my ome town of Skerries, Ireland, planning my trip to Maine in two weeks time. Its a cool autumn evening here but at least we're not getting the really awful weather part of the east coast US is getting. We've booked 1 night in Portland after our drive from Boston and I'm looking very closely at Belfast as our week long destination. Ideally, we want to rest, relax and just enjoy. My husband likes his ales and brew beers and we've noticed that there is brewery outside the town. Can anyone tell me how many (decent?) pubs there are? I've noticed loads about places to get food which is great, but we also enjoy a quiet drink in local pubs, ideally those that serve local ales and beers. Also, roughly, how far is Belfast driving from Portland? And finally, does anyone know of any local places where we might rent for a week? We're still planning so this might all change! Any help you can give would be very gratefully received. Much obliged in advance Mary
My hubby wanted me to ask what the weather is like in the New England area in early to mid-October. In Oklahoma we are better equipped to deal with the heat than the cold, so we could use also use tips on what to wear and what to pack. Thanks. I appreciate your kindness.
My husband and I are planning a fall trip to the New England area, including Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. We really want a memorable trip since it may be the only time we get to visit this area. Could you recommend any attractions or activities that fall into the "Don't Miss This" category? Thanks so much.
In relative close proximity to where the cruise boats dock at Portland, Maine, are there any sports bars that DEFINITELY have multiple tvs AND the NFL Sunday Ticket? I want to see the Ravens/Steelers game on Sunday, 9/11 @ 1pm while we're there.
Hi, my husband and I are planning on spending a few nights in Camden, Maine, as we travel through the state. We will be on the road for some time, so are looking for somewhere we might have self catering. Ideally, we'd like somewhere within easy walking distance of the town. We've been looking at motels, but from the maps etc., they all seem to be 1 mile + outside the town. Is this accurate? Are we misjudging it!!? Anyone know of any nice s/c places? Thanks
Where is a good lobster pound in the Portland area? We want the picnic table/no frills experience, not some fancy restaurant. Also, if we drive up US 1 from Portland how long would it take to reach Acadia? Thanks so much for the info.
We're looking for a spa that offers bridal packages, anyone know of a place in Bangor near Hampton Inn Hotel? Also, any other ideas for clean bacholerettes to do in Bangor?
My husband & I, both 70+, are planning on going to Maine area for two weeks this fall. Would like to split our stay into two areas, each one week. Would appreciate any advice on where, when, vacation rentals. Would love to be on the waterfront. Will be taking day trips to photograph the area, see the sights. Thanks!
I will be in Bar Harbor on a cruise stop on Sunday Sept 18 and want to find a bar relatively close to the port that has the NFL package so I can see the Ravens/Steelers gasme.
