I will be in Maine at the end of August and will travel between Portland and Lubec. Can anyone recommend a good whale watching tour I can take anwhere along that route? Thanks
I know there are whale watch tours from Bar Harbor, which wouldn't be too far out of your way. There are some others, but would be well off your main route unless you're taking back roads between Portland and around Bangor.
If you can, though, one of the best places to see whales on the east coast is the feeding grounds between Cape Ann, MA and Cape Cod, MA.

You want to go out with Odyssey http://odysseywhalewatch.com/ along the waterfront in Portland. The season is usally better earlier in the year then when you will be in town. Whales like to move to wammer waters towards Sept. Oct. so you should still be able to see some in Aug. regardless. Best of luck.
