When I visited Mainau, I notices a California Sequoyah tree on the island. I am interested in the story of how the tree came to be there.
Hi, Don't know the exact story here but the owner (family) of Mainau has been interested in trying out and planting special plants and trees there, especially from milder climates as Mainau has a mild (micro)climate. And Sequoia's have been quite popular in other parks throughout Europe also, we have a park nearby that claims to have the highest (and oldest) Sequoia in the Netherlands or even NW Europe. Maybe the various Mainau pages here on VT give a more detailed clue about this one... Good luck! P.
