If I only have time for a one-day trip, which would you recommend? Is it relatively easy to visit on my own by taking RENFE? Are the attractions walkable from the station? Any useful tips appreciated. Thanks!
Hard decision, but ?d opt for Toledo. Using Renfe (www.renfe.es) it takes around 33 minutes. Once you leave the railway station, walk for few meters to your right to take the bus that takes you to Plaza Zocodover, the heart of the city (around 5 minutes).

While both are interesting, Toledo is way more spectacular!

Of the 2 options I would also say Toledo, however one other option would be San Lorenzo de El Escorial.

I faced this same question recently in April of this year. While Segovia has the amazing Aqueduct, a great cathedral, and the Alcazar de Segovia I would take Toledo. Toledo is just a totally fascinating towel. Their cathedral is the most ornate one I have ever seen in Europe and the town is very walkable. There are many things to see including one of the oldest synagogues in Europe, some great bridges, fantastic views and even the train station in Toledo is a work of art. If you go to Toledo be sure and take the sightseeing double decker bus because it is the only way you can the best views of the city and it costs only two more Euros than the bus that goes into town. The train ride to Toledo is only minutes longer than to Segovia but I think the town has much more to offer.

Just came back from Segovia and Toledo. If you have to choose, I would recommend Toledo. The Cathedral was amazing and one of the biggest in the world but the painting of El Greco, one of the "must see" 4 masterpieces in the world was incredible.

Perfect! Toledo it is! Thanks everyone. I am going to DIY the day trip, so if anyone have any useful tips / links to share on that so I can maximise the trip would be great. I hope the RENFE is very frequent?

yes Renfe to Toledo is frequent, but not taken in years ,there I use the car or family's car. you can look into destinations above right for tips by posters like us in Toledo or the Spain national tourist site spain.info/en/ven/otros-dest... or Toledo tourist office official site toledo-turismo.com/turismo/c... plenty to see, depends on your interests. See the info and if need more on specifics come back to the forum Cheers

Yes as Santi suggested the trains to Toledo leave about every hour until about 8 pm with slightly less service on the weekends. Cost for me with a tarjetas card (for older folks) was 14.5 euros round trip.
