O.k. Never heard about that. Doesn´t matter, it´s only one day, if places are closed.

You don't say which website this was, but I presume you checked that it didn't simply indicate that you couldn't book for that day - as would be the case, for example, on eurolines website with respect to available departures for booking - i.e. apartment already booked.

Yes, I would imagine that it would mean that the accommodation is not available on that day - best to check with the owner.

"many of the cheap ones allows smoking at apartment :( Too bad, must pay extra for non smoking" Sorry Turska, I don´t understand...If it is an apartment, doesn´t mean that you(and the people in your group) will be "alone" in the apartment? So, if no one of the group smokes that turns the apartment into "smoke free", right?. Or is it the smell of previous users what you don´t like? And, about your question..I was surprised it was holiday in Madrid, but it is true. It is not in my part of the country. Every "part" of the country has the right to mark some days every year as "local" holidays...that may be one of the reasons why our economy is so miserable lately, being 17 "parts"...17 diferent days with a part of the country not working...it is not efficient. Have fun.

I guess you are a smoker ;) I hate the smell of smoke, and it really is at the apartment textiles and all, if there has been smoked. In Finland there is only no smoking hotels and I guess the same goes to rented holliday apartments. Even the people I know who smoke (luckily I know only few smokers, so no need to worry about that at parties or something) hate when people smoke inside. And the smell of the "old smoke" is so terrible. We once got a hotel room witch was smoked in, and had to ask for new one, because I felt so sick. We have rented several apartments around Europe, and never before seen so many with smoking allowed. I guess it´s some kind of culural thing.

got in late, but many good postings. yes too sad in Spain every autonomous region has holidays not necessarily the same as the others. Going to Madrid at Castille you have Corpus Christi, indeed a very important religious holiday. Marked red could means as been said a Sunday or that the owners take the holiday, best is to contact them and ask ::) hope it helps

I am a smoker who has not smoked for the last 4 months...but, I know I will always be a smoker. I understand what you say about smell. I think that more and more hotels in Spain have that smoke free politic, but remember that it is just 15 months since it is not allowed to smoke in bars and restaurants here. Good luck.

Yes, I know. It was at 2007 when it came not allowed in Finland either. Allthough most "eating restaurants" were smoke free before, or had a small area for smokers. But I love it now, when there is no smoke at pubs either! My husband did smoke many years, but ended when he "found" me (18years ago). And now he hates the smoke as much as I do. We are maybe paying more to get a smoke free apartment. With good luck, there would not have been many smokers, even if it would be allowed, but we might not want to take a risk.
