It is one of the bigest airports in Europe, so yes, they do have some duty free shops. You will only buy duty-free things if you are leaving the european union! I was flying to Australia, and my ticket said so, but there was an scale in London, and they were not allowed to sell it duty free.

http://www.aldeasa.com/ is the largest shop selling booze etc.

That is not truth; I was flying Madrid-Budapest from T4 and bought some staff in duty free without any problem.

Hi Mellek...we bought the things...but the price, was the expensive one, not the one without taxes. They told us that if the flight is landing in the european union, the tax must be charged. I was surprised, as was just in transit in London...but I promise that it happened to me.

You can buy things in the duty-free shops, of course, but if you are travelling within the EU (as I suspect the OP is) then you cannot buy them duty-free. They are the same price as you would pay in the shops, sometimes with a bit of a discount (nothing to do with taxes). That is EU law. Cigarettes and alcohol, for example, always have two prices displayed..one for within-EU travellers, and one for those travelling outside the EU. I have found that alcohol etc is more cheaply purchased in shops, wherever I am staying. As an EU citizen, I never buy at the airport in any EU country. Prices are simply not a bargain.

Aldeasa is the company that runs practically all the Duty free stores in Spanish airports (except for the brands that are run by their own companies). Drinks are cheaper than high street rates, however due to the fact that you cannot bring any liquids as hand luggage, for security reasons, it is better to purchase them at the airport duty free stores. There are stores at practically all the terminals at Barajas even though the bigger shops in the duty free area are located in terminal 1. best regards Mahesh

>Drinks are cheaper than high street rates, however due to the fact that you cannot bring any liquids as hand luggage, for security reasons, it is better to purchase them at the airport duty free stores. Did you mean that drinks are not cheaper than high street rates (for travelling within the EU)?

Drinks in the duty free stores are slightly cheaper than the high street rates for travelling to the EU.

After the "liquid restriction" rules, and when traveling with hand luggage, I bough a few bottles of wine/cava as presents in BCN, GRO and MAD airports. I found the prices a bit more expensive than on my regular wine shop (but as said above, it was the only way to bring the bottles with me). Maybe liquors are a bit cheaper. What I found cheaper were perfumes and beauty products. To the original question, and as already said: you will find in Barajas all kind of shops, being "Aldeasa" the main place to purchase drinks. If you plan to save money, is not the best place though... only if you're traveling outside the EU.
