I'm thinking of getting a flight from barcelona but one that has a layover in madrid..will get in about noon and wont fly out til next morning.in this time , i would like to go to segovia.how far is charmartin train station from airport and is there a moderate priced hotel near the airport?
You can take the Cercanias local train from Barajas airport T4 to Chamartin...journey time around 12 minutes:

The fastest trains take less than 30 minutes.
I can't recommend a specific hotel (I stayed near Atocha) but whilst you are waiting for members' suggestions have a look at the reliable www.booking.com where you can refine your search by area. The site lists 19 hotels in and around Charmartin.

you have choices if you have that time, depends on the luggage you can take the metro de madrid
