Bicycling trips from Lucca

My husband and I are planning a trip to Lucca in late September. We are planning to rent bicycles for a few days. Are there any routes outside of Lucca that are not too dangerous to ride our bikes? We were hoping to bike to Pisa, but are not sure if the roads are too busy. Are there dedicated bike paths?

    I saw no dedicated bike lanes/paths in the area Lucca>Pisa so chances are you will be cycling on the roads. It's up to you whether you want to do that but I'd just take the train to Pisa: it's quick, safe and cheap. Train times, details and fares in English on trenitalia.com/homepage_en.h...
