Hi We are doing the drive from San Fran to Vegasin Late July. My question is I realy want to stay on the Queen Mary but on close inspection of the map dont like what I see with the roads in LA. We are coming in from Santa Barbara hoping to call in on Santa Monica and Malibu (might even stay one night if people recomend) BUT what is the driving like for a Brit not used to the traffic, is it easy (ish) to get to the Mary at Long Beach. Dont want to have a panic attack!! It looks like an easyish 405 but when blow up the map theres a lot of spaghetti like roads. Advice please, Thank you
Hi everyone We are staying for two or three days on the Queen Mary as a speciel treat. We will have a rental car but would like to know can you get into Hollywood area and Warner Brothers studio from there by public transport...easily that is not lots of changes. Dont realy want to take the car into LA itself. Would also like to visit Disney World but think that may be a car day. Is it a nice area to stay anyway, we will have just driven along the highway from sanfram. Thankyou
We are staying at Comfort Inns and Suites ,200 East Willow St. in Long Beach. Should I look for a different Hotel or is it safe in this area ? Will be there for 2 days .
I have booked to come to the USA for the first time, visiting San Fransisco, Las Vegas and Long Beach. We are staying in the Westin towards the end of September. I booked Long Beach, because I am not really interested in Hollywood and I wanted a chilled out end to our trip. (Nicebeach, restaurants and maybe a couple of excursions) Reading a little more about Long Beach now, I worry I have boooked to come to somewhere that is quite unsafe and I will have to constantly worry about our safety. Although it may be expensive to do so, should I change and book Redondo instead? Thanks Mgwidow
I've been studying the possibility of staying at the Queen Mary, but since we have our dog with us, the extra75- fee seems a bit much for place that seems like a run-down tourist trap. But, then the pet friendly Motel 6 seems to offer nothing in terms of experience, even for one night stay. All we want is a decent one night experience in the hours before getting on the ferry to Catalina Island. So, it seems that we could do better to stay somewhere else within the LA basin, within reasonable distance of the Catalina Port. We will drive from Northern California, so getting to the last ferry departing on Sunday--5:45PM--also seems difficult. So, does anyone have a unique, and not overly expensive LA hotel recommendation, a place where we can get out on the street to walk the dog without getting run over, and get non-corporate style food to eat? I know, this seems like I'm asking too much from LA, or am I?
Help!! We are celebrating Valentine's day today, and I mis-scheduled things by an hour. We will get out of the theater a bit after 4:00, and dinner is not until 5:30 at Sir Winston's on the Queen Mary. Any advice on what to do for that extra hour? (She has seen the Miller Gardens, and casinos do not interest her ) Please post by 4:00PM today, and I can read it on my cell phone. Thanks.
How hard is it for a young couple to make it in Long Beach after relocating from the san Fernardo Valley?
What is the name of the landscape architect that designed and built the landscaping?
I was curious as to what neighborhoods are considered the most dangerous on the east side of Long Beach? Can you be specific, with street names, and why these areas are so dangerous?
My boyfriend will be traveling to Long Beach for work related purposes and I will be tagging along. We are from Canada and don't know to much about it. We are both in our early 30's. While he is at work what is there to do....besides sitting on the beach :) Any good hotel deals, shopping etc. I am your typical girl so anything you can tell us about Long Beach would be SOOOO appreciated. We are traveling there mid May 2009. Thanks so much

Hi there. We plan to use some points for a one-night stay at one of the Best Westerns in Long Beach this October. Can anyone recommend which Best Western is the best (property, location etc.) - - Best Western at the Convention Centre - Best Western of Long Beach - Best Western Golden Sails Also, some friends want to book a room (up to110 roughly) in a good location at the same time (October) - not necessarily at a Best Western if they can find something better. Any advice on a great hotel in that price range would be great. Thanks, Karin

Hello there Was hoping for some local advice as to the immediate area around the Holiday Inn Hotel in the downtown area, is it dangerous in the daytime? Hi all :D I open this topic because I'd need of some info... I hope someone will reply :D Well.. I'm from Italy and I study at university. I won a student's grant (I dunno if the word is right.. I mean to say I won money from my uni to apply a project/research in a foreign country) and I'd like to apply it at Long Beach. Now.. I should go there in August or September and I'm looking for accomodations. I'd like to know if there are places for students where they can eat/sleep ecc.. I'm not looking for renting houses but only for places where students live all together. I hope you can understand, coz I'm not able to find the right words in English to describe that :D Well.. can someone help me? You're all free to send me an email to the following address: darren_duncan@virgilio.it See you all ;) Alex
I'll be in Long Beach Mar 24-30, staying at the Hyatt Regency near the beach. I plan to spend time at the beach during the day and go out and have fun in the evenings. What's considered appropriate swimwear on the beach for a young male in good shape? Where is good to go in the evenings? What is the temp likely to be? Thanks!
My family of 6 are planning a trip to California,we are looking at the Orange Co. area. What is the weather usually like the first 2 weeks in November. Also is Belmont Shore,Long Beach a good base, we plan on visiting Valencia,San Diego and Anaheim.
Hello, I'll be visiting Long Beach next week for 3 days and will be staying at a hotel near the waterfront. My plan is to spend 2 days in the hollywood/santa monica area and 1 day at a beach. According to the MTA website theres the 'blue line' that goes to LA and I can transfer to the 'green line' to go to Rotondo and transfer to the 'red line' to go to hollywood. My questions are: Is it safe to travel through southern LA from Long Beach, ie. through Compton and other areas. And if its not safe can anyone recommend a better (yet cheap) way to go to the places I mentioned. I'm a young female travelling alone and I don't want to put myself in any dangerous situations. Thanks!
Hey - I've enjoyed reading some of the Q&A regarding the area. Looking for a bit of sunshine, beach time, relax, maybe mild hiking, place for my dogs to hang, meet some *interesting* people, quiet time but also nice music (jazz or Dj house or break beat music) at night, perhaps. I'll be driving from Denver with 2 huskies sometime here late November or December. So don't want to go somewhere that's in 90's - hopefully no hotter than mid 80's. Hoping for a place that is dog-friendly and looking for a potential hostel or low-key hotel that we can stay at that's clean. I figure this is the closest, nicest area to Denver that has beach but am open for other suggestions. I also like Ultimate frisbee :) I read about Long Beach so that doesn't sound as interesting as the other places like Venice, Santa Monica, Redondo, Hermosa, etc. Never been to this area so have no idea what to expect. Any advice is welcome!
Hi, I am planning to spend one night at Long Beach California. Does anyone have good recommendations on cheap accomodations along ocean boulevard? Anyone can suggest what I can do in half a day in Long Beach? Thanks in advance for the help

Is it possible to take the trolley between these two cities? I will be in town for a couple days and would like to cruise between these two places. Thank You
Hello Can anybody tell me whether there is public transit available from LAX to Long Beach (specifically the Queen Mary) mid-week, mid-day? How complicated is it to get from the airport to LB? What does it cost? Also, I've heard that there's a water taxi or something from the Queen Mary to the Convention Centre...if so, what's the schedule like, and what does it cost? Thanks very much for any advice! torontoharmreduction@yahoo.ca
hi, can you please post urls to your favorite long beach tips and pages here? I want to compile a list and give it out at this member member meeting meetings.virtualtourist.com/... thanks for your help
Hey all I'm not totally sure if this is the right place to post or if it'll get a reply, but I'm going to California this October. Obviously it's not the best time of year but its the only time I really have free and it's fairly cheap to get flights then. Anywho, I'm a 17 yeard old guy and will probably be travelling alone depending on how reliable my friends who also want to go are. I was thinking of Long Beach as a good place to go to. On my trip I'll just want to chill out, do some shopping, have some fun, and maybe meet some other young people, because I'm a very social person. Do you think Long beach is a decent place for that kinda normal stuff or is there somewhere else you could recommend? Thanks Sam
