Eurostar on New Year 2013

by waraney Online Now Jul 1, 2012 at 8:42 AM

Dear VTers. I am visiting London on December 29th and planning to go to Brussels on TGV on January 1st, 2013. Will the train operate on that particular day? Thank you.

Trains do run from London to Brussels on 1st January but some journeys early in the day may not run as scheduled. You will need to check the timetable and make your reservation (also to get the cheapest fare) at www.eurostar.com three months before the date of travel. These are Eurostar trains, not TGV.

Eurostar is indeed the name of the specific company which runs this train and route. The booking 'window' is open 120 days in advance. I suggest you work out when that is and book on the official website: www.eurostar.com either on that day or as soon as possible afterwards. It is likely that trains may sell out sooner than they would normally, and it is certain (as it always is with Eurostar) that the cheapest fares will sell out quickly anyway.

I believe that there may be a reduced service on that day, so check it out. Also you may want to book in advance to secure the seat. Not sure if there are discounts for advanced booking for that service.

Davidjo, booking in advance is *essential* for the under-Channel Eurostar unless you want to pay the very expensive walk-up fare as well as...more importantly...risk not getting a seat. Unlike other trains in the UK, there no standing is allowed and the trains can get full up. There are no special discount fares for booking in advance. There are fares at different prices, with the cheaper ones limited in availability. The cheapest tickets sell-out well before departure. For example, for London>Paris at the end of October (the furthest ahead one can book at the moment) fares start at 39GBP for all departures. For 17th July, cheapest fare is 56GBP but only on a few departures. for tomorrow, cheapest fare is 140GBP only available on one departure..otherwise cheapest fare is 112GBP. That is why booking well in advance is always a very good idea with Eurostar, and most especially so for busy periods such as Christmas/New Year etc. There may well be a reduced service on 1st, but that's not the main reason for my advice that the OP books as soon as it is possible; it is the fact that the cheaper tickets sell out quickly.

Hi All good advice above. One thing to remember is that all transport in London will be on a special timetable and all services will be reduced. Leave plenty of time to go from where you are to St Pancras where the Eurostar departs from. If you plan to take a cab, I's recommend booking it it advance too. A
