From what I can find on Google - there are quite a few options of dining in Earl's Court but they all seem pretty general. Besides the pasty shop, where else can we find good British food on the cheap? We are staying near Earl's Court so what places are close enough to walk to?
Ironically, 'good British food' is actually pretty hard to find in the UK. We have very varied tastes nowadays, and traditional dishes are not so commonly found in restaurants. In fact 'British' restaurants are pretty rare beasts Our ethnic restaurants are truly superb. You might try looking at the local pubs. Pubs usually have at least a couple of 'British' dishes on the menu...basic stuff like Yorkshire pudding filled with something meaty, or sausage and mash.

Pubs often serve a "traditional" Sunday Lunch - Roast meat - beef, lamb, pork or ham /poultry with all the veg. and traditional accompaniments - sauces/stuffing/Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Sometimes very good food well cooked & value for money - other times what my mother used to describe as only fit for "pig swill". Some of the chain Carveries which do a help yourself buffet version. Best to ask around where you are staying for up to date local info on this.

Here's a good list of restaurants near Earl's Court, there's not much listed for British food, The Penny Black (which is near the Gloucester Road tube, not Earl's Court) is the only one I see allinlondon.co.uk/regions/ea... It looks a bit pricey from their website though and your other post says you're on a budget http://www.thepennyblack.com/ Of course you don't need to near your hotel, if you find yourself near Trafalgar Square the Cafe in the Crypt has good full English breakfasts and for lunch they offer a couple of different entree options. Stockpot has several locations throughout London including one near Leicester Square, across the street from the one in Leicester Square (Panton Street) there's also West End Kitchen

Earl court is packed with places to eat. Most places ethnic though, but their food is good too. I lived there myself a few years ago and remember an "Aberdeen steak house" there where i would sometimes take my dates.

"where else can we find good British food on the cheap?" I am afraid you will not find it at the place recommended above by tedallen! But with the more reasonable suggestions that have been made I'm sure you won't starve :) Enjoy your trip.

Agree. If you are eating on a budget then UK hotel restaurants are best avoided. But you certainly won't starve, even if you do sometimes end up eating non-British food! :-)

There's a Greggs right opposite the tube which has pies and stuff and you can sit and eat. It's not especially British, but there are 2 burger places - GBK and Byron both within a minute of the tube. Both do excellent burgers for around £7. If you can splurge a bit, I recommend a 10 minute walk round to West Brompton and the Atlas pub. Their wonderful pasta with Italian sausage is £12, which might be out of your range, but they also do chicken and steak sandwiches. http://www.theatlaspub.co.uk/ Has a flower-filled patio to one side.
