Hi VTers, Can anyone recommend a good, cheap hotel/hostel in London which is within easy commuting distance to/from St Pancras please? Thanks!

'Cheap' and London do not really mix. I stay at the Euro Hotel, which is less than 5 minutes' walk to St P...but it may be outside your budget (depending on when you visit). www.eurohotel.co.uk I also stayed at the Mentone (next door to the Eurohotel) www.mentonehotel.com I booked both through www.booking.com and both are absolutely fine for a short stay. Use www.booking.com for hotels...it is entirely reliable with honest guest reviews and you can refine your search by area so can check what is available near St P. For hostels look at www.hostelworld.com and www.hostelbookers.com All hostels will be listed and mapped, and both sites carry reviews.

Check this hostel out: London Hotel Tips by penny_g I was there and it was quite pricy, so review my tip and decide if to go there

The Astor Kensington hostel looks very nice, but for some reason the website is inaccessible at the moment. Here it is anyway: www.astorhostels.co.uk/ You can also find it on www.hostelbookers.com and www.hostelworld.com But it's not within walking distance (with bags) of St P, so you'd need to use Tube (Picadilly line from Gloucester Road would avoid having to change lines), bus or taxi.

Thanks for all your suggestions! I know, London + cheap isn't normally a possible combination but I was looking through hostelworld.com and I came across a hostel that would be about a tenner a night. I think it's called St Christoper's Inn - Southbank (I'm happy to take a tube if it's easily connected the hostel/hotel). It's in a shared dorm of up to 10 and close to where I need to get to the following day, so I think I'll look at that again as well as your suggestions and get booking!

Here's the website; st-christophers.co.uk/london... Not a tenner per night in July though, I'm afraid. :-(

Fab, thanks for the link! I'm going in Aug so hopefully the prices should be a tenner (hostelbookers stated they were when I checked yesterday so might book it early now to get the best price)

I'm afraid they're not a tenner in August either. It is high season.

Oh, how strange. The hostelbookers website quoted £10.49... I'll just keep searching until I manage to find something cheapish

I think you were looking at different dates? I can't find any July availability at St Christopher's Southbank on hostelbookers, but the August prices are 25.45 euro per person..that's about 23GBP.
