Hi everyone, I will be going to London from 11th till 20th Sep alone. This will be a real challenge for me. Can anyone tell me more about London on how I can plan my trip and what to do and where can i go. Looking forward to any advice. Thanks people!
Hi - there is so much to do and see in London - great museums, historical sights, etc. It all depends on what your interests are. Why don't you take a look at some of the excellent London tips/travel pages here on VT to get an idea of what might interest you. (Just type London in the search box at top right of your screen.) Then you can come back with specific questions and we'll be glad to help you out.

Absolutely.....have a look at the VTpages, then come back with more specific questions. But the first thing you need to sort out is your accommodation. London is expensive (as is the UK generally) so have a look at the official tourist information website. It lists all appropriate accommodation, and has a search engine with which you can search by landmark, location etc as well as by type of accomodation: visitlondon.com/accommodatio...

I suppose there are a few unmissable London icons - Buckingham Place, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Downing Street etc, but it depends a lot on your own interests. Do you like sport, shopping, fine art, theatre / shows, pubs and clubs, history, eating out, literature, live music ? London has lots to offer and I guess you'll want to focus on your main areas of interest.

Trip Advisor might also be a good reference for searching hotels. Personally, I think Westminster Abby, Tower of London, Hyde Park, the British Museum, the London Eye, St Paul's Cathedral and just walking the various neighborhoods and squares are some of the great activities for first timers. As you have plenty of time, you could also take the train out to Windsor Castle, a boat on the river to Hampton Court, and other great spots further afield. Yes, it would help to know what you find interesting so we can help you a little better!

Here is one unusual idea, as the standard touristy things are quite obvious. bukisa.com/articles/130664_t...

I guess i will looking for the architecture in London like castles, churches, cathedral, and not forgetting some nightlife clubbing. Shopping is definitely out of the priorty now. I wanna see more of London. Oh yeah, should i get the oyster card as i heard that it is the most worthwhile transportation card available and it does not have any cap on the times of travel. or there is other options?

Yes, do book your acccom first. Reviews of the generator here: tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Revi... hostels.com/Reviews/Generato...

As for Oyster, it depends on how much you want to use public transport, and where. There are also travelcards. And you will see much more of London if you walk as much as possible. Have a look at this page for a good comparison of Oyster/travelcards: londontoolkit.com/briefing/t...

There is only one castle in London.....the Tower of London (dating from Norman times). http://www.hrp.org.uk/TowerOfLondon/ Slightly outside London is the wonderful Hampton Court Palace hrp.org.uk/HamptonCourtPalac... and Windsor is an easy trip by train: royalcollection.org.uk/defau... Westminster Abbey is wonderful, but can be crowded. Try to get there early...or late (allow yourself an hour or so to explore). westminster-abbey.org/visit-... and St Paul's: http://www.stpauls.co.uk/Visits-Events Temple church: http://www.templechurch.com/ The British Museum is free and absolutely stupendous: http://www.britishmuseum.org/ as is the Natural History Museum: http://www.nhm.ac.uk/ Also the V&A, the Tate, the Tate Modern, the National Portrait Gallery (all have their own websites if you google). Many visitors go on the London Eye, although I think it is over-priced. Best to book in advance if you don't want to queue for ages. www.londoneye.com

You can only visit the State Rooms and the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace (and only till 30th September, though that won't affect you): royalcollection.org.uk/defau...

Only very rarely. I live in the English Midlands, so my journeys to London are usually made by train (takes just over an hour). I don't often need to stay overnight.
