I will go to Lombok this April. Is it possible to treck with our self to Mt. Rinjani? and how many days for the minimum to spend for this trekking? please i need some information. Regards!
I do not think it is advisable to do Mt Rinjani on your own, nor any other mountain in Indonesia unless you are already familiar with the conditions. The more so as April is still the end of the rainy season and you need to camp halfway. I have never been on Rinjani. For an idea of what the trek involves, have a look at the JavaLava website: javalavaindonesia.multiply.c... (You do not need to take an expensve trip like this, tough.) Theo

Hey Fitri, how are things in Karimunjawa these days? You mention “our self” so I assume you have at least one other person with you? It’s no fun camping out at night alone. ;) Even though you’re Indonesian, I would agree with Theo and be sure to hire a guide from Senaru. Like Theo, I’ve never done this trek myself either, but several members of my Balinese family have (it being a sacred place like Gunung Agung) and even they have relied on local Balinese living near Gunung Rinjani as guides. It will probably be fairly quiet when you are there this April, and you don’t want to get totally lost up there. Since you are in the travel business, can you promise to take lots of photos and post them on your VT pages? Have a great time, but be safe too!

Oh Great! thank you so much for your information. i do believe there must be guide accompanion for the safety. as i considering for better not takes a package tour, as it will be cost more expensive because April is not many tourist coming. I probably will pay for a guide and porter(maybe) and rent the equipments. Yes, i will not going alone, i'll pick up my friend in Bali first, then we heading to Lombok together. She is now start singing in some bars of ubud. as i noted that you an Ubudian :) Well, thanks so much for your advice. Sari

Tourists must have a guide but locals may trek without one. I know many locals who have trekked Rinjani some without a guide, some with and some with just a porter (who also acts as a guide) You needn't prebook a trek if you want a guide you can arrange one on arrival.
