Hi, I planned to stay two nights at Lombok in between Gili Air and the plain to Jakarta (back home). Since I didn't know about the new located airport I would stay somewhere around Senggigi. Easy and nearby travelling from the Gili's and to the airport (Mataram). Maybe it's better to find a new -even nicer place- to stay. How long is it travelling from the coast (near the gilis) to Kuta? In a decent way. Or should we still go for the Senggigi option. We are a family of 3 (daugther 13) and we like to have some relaxed last holiday days, and in a kind of luxury accomodation with a ver¥ nice beach and if possible a pool. Every suggestion is welcome thanks Patty
Hi, If distance to the airport is your concern, then Kuta should be your choice. The distance to the new airport is only 20 km or half an hour's drive. Until now there is one luxury hotel at Kuta (actually a couple of km east of Kuta), with its own beach and pool: the Novotel. You will easily find it with google. If this is above your budget, there are many more modest accommodations. We found Matahari Inn not bad at all, with small pool in garden, but not at the beach. Other accommodation faces the beach in the village. But you reach better beaches if you hire a motorbike. Theo

The new airport is quiet a distance to drive when visiting the Gili Islands. I stayed at Sheraton Senggigi which was really a lovely hotel for the family sitauted on the beach and not far from Bangsal where you can take the boat to the Gili Islands. We did a day trip to Kuta from Senggigi which was really great and stopped and had lunch at Novotel Kuta. Kuta beach is definitely much nicer with dramatic landscapes then Senggigi. The only reason why we stayed in Senggigi as we wanted to be close to the Gili Islands when we made our trip there too and from.

I also stayed in Sheraton Senggigi. Nice hotel with good breakfast but the beach is not as good as Kuta. From Senggigi to new airporat takes about 1.5 hours. We hired the car from hotel to do a few day trips during our stay. Service was good.

I agree Kuta has the better beaches and Novotel is a beautiful hotel. Novotel is located 30 minutes drive from the airport. I recently checked rates at Novotel and they had some sale prices..with rooms from as little as79.
