I am doing a photo trip for Northern Lights Mar 5-10 /13 and am trying to figure out a packing list. Temps on line show around freezing, but not sure what wind, rain/snow and dark of night might be like. I'm from Canada so have lots of heavy winter gear, but my question is how much will I need. Heavy winter boots, or hiking boots and warm socks? Wind/rain overpants and long underwear, or insulated snowmobile type pants? Tips from anyone who has been there in March would be helpful, or especially anyone who has done a Northern lights photo trip?
Hello Everyone! I’m planning to make a trip to Lofoten this june and I have a few questions which I need help on. First of all, I’m planning to head over to Lofton by taking a ferry from bodo. I’ll be trying get around by bus, bikes or just walking. (I won’t be renting a car since I don’t have a driver’s license.) 1. Is Reine accessible and a good place to stay? Or would it be better to stay in other villages like Henningsvaer or Å? 2. Due to a budget constraint, I would prefer to rent a room in a guesthouse or an apartment rather than a Rorbuer. Are there any other similar accommodations in Reine like this? --> lofoten-info.no/hotellet/eng... 3. Am I able to go for fishing trips like this --> datadesign.ws/x-Hellvaag/Eng... in Reine?
On our last trip to Norway, we did not have a car while we visited the Lofoten Islands. This limited our movement. We stayed outside Svolvaer and had to take a taxi to our hotel and then were lucky that our hotel had bicycles to borrow so we could go out and eat our meals. So on an upcoming trip to the islands (August this year), we want to get a car. Where is the best place to rent a car? Can we rent one in Svolvaer (we'd prefer to use that as our gateway to the islands, taking the express boat from Bodo). Or we may fly to Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes. Can we get a car there? A third option is what visitnorway.com says: "If you drive, you can take the car ferry from Bodø across to Moskenes, Værøy or Røst. Or you can drive further north of Bodø, to Skutvik, and take the car ferry across to Skrova or Svolvær." What's recommended - what's the best place to get a car to get around the islands?
Hi, I'll have a free day in Svolvaer on Monday, March 7 (I've been there before) and am thinking of either taking the ferry to Skrova, going to Kabelvag (I've been to Henningsvaer), or taking the bus to Fiskebol. Any suggestions or comments on which would be best? Thanks very much. Cathy
Hi there! Me and my friends are planning a trip to Norway in the first week of March of 2011. We´ll be standing for 2 days in Tromso and then we want to go to the Lofoten Islands. We were thinking of going to the southern of Lofoten, to Reine or Ä, and stay in a Rorbuer for 2 nights. From there we are expecting to take a ferry to Bodo. So, can anyone help me to pick the fastest way from Tromso to Reine or Ä? And in wich village do we stay? Reine or Ä? Or, does anyone have another suggestion? Thanks.
Hi , Wouls be appreciated if some experts could advise whether there's any left-luggage centre at Moskenes ? We will be arriving Moskenes port at 5.00 early morning in March'2011 , thinking of dropping our luggage at the centre & do a detour to A & Reine & back to Moskenes to pick up our luggage ,then going by bus to Stamsund ( stay 2 nights ) . We have 3 full days in Lofoten , can we head to the Northern part like Svolvaer & Henningsvaer & back to Stamsund within the 2nd day ? Our 3rd day will be touring the Central part like Stamsund & Leknes , we then leave for Bodo from Stamsund late at night ( arriving Bodo during Midnight ) Thank you very very much ....

I have allready taken part in this forum and it has been very useful. I'm travelling from Spain to Lofoten in the end of October. Does anybody know which is the nearest international airport to Lofoten islands?. And after arriving the best and possibly cheapest way to get to Lofoten. Once there, the best city or village to conssider it as a base camp to visit the rest of the islands? Thanks again to everyone
Hi everybody, my name is Roberto from Spain and I'm planning to go to the Lofoten islands in the end of October. I have thousands of questions to ask, and I don't know where to start. It's my dream to sea the northern lights, and I have been trying to plan this trip for some years now, but I never got up to it. First of all, is it the right time of the year to see the northern lights? If it is, I need loads of information about places to stay (very low budget), the best and cheapest way to get to Lofoten. What transport combinations are best from Spain ... I'm sorry I have too many questions. I have been looking a lot of websites, most of them very good, and got lots of info, but as I don't know exactly how to do it I feel really lost. If you can help me I will thank you ever so much.
We are traveling to Lofoten Islands in August and trying to decide if we should stay at Ørsvågvær AS or Sandvika Camping. We are 2 adults and 2 kids (12,8). Looks like both locations have a beach for the kids to play on and rent boats. Does anyone have knowledge of these 2 campgrounds to give us some advice?
Hello VT friends! We are planning to visit Lofoten by hurtigruten, but it looks like we don't have enough cabin tickets for all of us(4),what is the best alternate way to get to and travel in Lofoten Islands from Tromso.I did not see any bus routes to Lofoten Islands from Tromso.Where does the Lofoten Islands stand on a "MUST SEE IN NORWAY" group ? Are there any other ferries ? We have spent enough time browsing all over the internet world. VT is the only platform left for us.
Hello! I am going to work in Lofoten next week and thought of taking a bike with me there. And so, I got some questions. Hopefully smb could answer me! 1) weather? how warm is it now there and is it much raining? I though of cycling from Sortland to Svolvær to catch Hurtigruten there and continue by it to Stamsund. 2) Can you recommend me the cycling roote? maps google com advises car way via road 50, but I see on the map the possbility to go to Stokmarknes and take a ferry fom there to Svolvær. the problem is I can`t find which roote is that and time table 3) other optin is to take a ferry Melbu-Fiskebøl, but then I have to cycl up till Svolvær and my poblem is the time: I start early friday morning and as I take my plane from Røst on Sunday, it seems I have to get there by Saturday morning as there is no boat running from Moskenes to Røst on Sunday morning 4) Anyone could recommend a sleeping budjet place in Røst?

We understand we can catch a bus from the ferry terminal to Reine. And what time does the ferry leave the islands to go back to Bodo? I cant seem to find ferry times anywhere and book them?

Hello, Me and my girlfriend are planning a trip to Lofoten at the end of October, and would rather not rent a car, if possible. Does anyone know, is there enough public transport to let us get around the islands and get to various towns and places? Thanks
Hi! Anyone could advise if there's any possibility to rent a car somewhere in southern Lofoten (we will be coming to Moskenes and staying in Sakrisoy, Nusfjord, Henningsvaer and Svolvaer, then moving up north) to drive it up north and return it in Tromso? I am surprised to have quite an issue with finding any rental service that would enable us to do that. MAny thanks in advance for any response!
Hi, I'll be traveling to Lofoten next week and hope conditions are great so I can take lots of pictures. Does anyone know if there's a place to burn CDs from my memory card anywhere on the islands (maybe Svolvaer?) Svolvaer seems pretty touristy, so maybe they'll have one. I'll also be in Stamsund and Lknes. Thanks very much for any help you can give me. Cathy
Hi everybody! We are planning some hiking in Lofoten in the middle of the June (backpacks, tents, etc). Now I got a question: is there a possible pass from Bunes beach to Kjerkfjorden village by mountains? Of course without a technical climbing skills and without climbing equipment. I know that the boat can take us there, but I'd prefer to pass it on my feet... Will be grateful for any help!
Hi there! I'm trying to see a glimpse of Lofoten islands in 3-4 days this July, independently, in low budget costs. With first look it seems difficult. I have concluded how to get to Bodo by train and that's all I have till now- this seems to be a convinient exit point to Lofoten. Could you suggest a few ideas on how to get a good experience of the islands, perhaps by taking the ferry to which port, or some bus rides also, which city / village could be a convinient base in the itinerary... The prices i find for organised excursions are too expensive. I try to do it on my own- if possible. any ideas could be great! many thanks Nikos
Hi, My friend and I are going to Fredvang from Bodo, and we're wondering whether it is better to take the ferry from Bodo to Moskenes or is there any other ports which are nearer to Fredvang? Also, how do we get from Moskenes to Fredvang? Are there buses going from Moskenes to Fredvang, especially on Sundays? (We're arriving there on Sunday). Thanks very much!
Hello, does anyone know whether there are any tolls on the roads/tunnels in the Lofotens? We will be coming from Bodo to Moskenes and then hiring a car for 3 days. We will be departing by ferry for Narvik from Svolver (after dropping off the car). We are confused whether to book accomodation in one place for 3 nights or move along the islands from A to Svolver to avoid backtracking and avoid paying any tolls twice (or more if we do day trips in the car). Is this a problem? Should we just book accomodation in the one town and if so where would you suggest? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
does anyone know if its possible to do this trip (return) in a day....are there any ferrys that go in this direction??
Hey i want to go from Bodo to Moskenes (Lofoten) and i checked the Ferry website but it looks like you have to go with a car in order to make a reservation.. isnt is possible to travel from Bodo to Moskenes on ferry if u dontt have a car? thanks Dani
Hi, I am currently living in Oulu, so almost Northern Finland. My idea was to drive to the Lofoten for some days (spring/summer). Only I am thinking about how good streets are prepared on the way there, specifically when crossing Norways mountains, just before reaching the sea. Is there any resource on the net, where I can get a daily information about street conditions (maybe with webcam). It is snow and ice, that I think about... Thanks! Christian.
