    • Vuorji mountain and Lievnasjaure lake

      Finnmark May 10, 2015 at 3:08 AM

My name is Nikki and I live in Amsterdam. I am planning a hiking trip this summer to northern Finnmark in Norway.

I read this book that really inspired me to go over there. I don't know if you have heard about it before, it is really popular in Holland. I believe in English it is called Beyond Sleep, by W.F. Hermans. It is about a scholar going on a fieldtrip in that area.

He starts in Skoganvarre, then heads West towards the Vuorji mountain and the Lievnasjaure lake. Then he goes south to Karasjok and I believe he follows a famous marked trail with small stones too.

I am looking for people with some experience in this area who might have information about these places, the hiking and camping itself and maybe if you know some local guides that can help me.

Arrive in Bergen by flight from Stockholm on 1st June morning.

Do we book minibus / van with English speaking driver / Guide?

What do we do and see for the 2 days, 1st and 2nd June?

We will proceed for the Norway in a Nutshell experience on 3rd June morning. Reach Oslo at night.

How do we go about this (after booking online)?

I know that these are a lot of questions, but please do help.

Cruise to Alesund, Honnigsvag, Tromso, Geiranger, Olden & Bergen how much Norwegian should we have?

      Norway Apr 30, 2015 at 4:34 PM

What is your wild Guesstimate/guess how much Norwegian Krone/per person we should have for these 6 cruise stops; Alesund, Honnigsvag, Tromso, Geiranger, Olden & Bergen in June? We will have credit cards for most of the significant purchases. I would think that the city tour buses and the like would take credit cards or not? I know it is difficult to answer though, all input and comments are greatly appreciated. We will likely be buying tourist items and stopping in a few pubs. I would think restaurants will take credit cards. When I have seen similar postings in the past, I thought how could anyone answer this question because how can estimate someones spending habits but, all VT comments are appreciated and possibly you have had this same experience. I don't want to insult locals by trying to use US dollars or do they take Euros?

So, we're doing a bike tour in Lofoten in August. Is it worth making a round trip (Which would be about 400 km) along the southern coasts first and the northern coasts getting back? Or are we better off getting from Moskenes to Svolvaer in one go and then use the days we have left for something else around Bodo, or for going further west of Svolvaer?

Places to stay in Lofoten & fishing trips?

by MizBlack Online Now Mar 22, 2012 at 8:21 AM

      Hello Everyone!

I’m planning to make a trip to Lofoten this june and I have a few questions which I need help on.
First of all, I’m planning to head over to Lofton by taking a ferry from bodo. I’ll be trying get around by bus, bikes or just walking. (I won’t be renting a car since I don’t have a driver’s license.)

      1. Is Reine accessible and a good place to stay? Or would it be better to stay in other villages like Henningsvaer or Å?

      2. Due to a budget constraint, I would prefer to rent a room in a guesthouse or an apartment rather than a Rorbuer. Are there any other similar accommodations in Reine like this? --> lofoten-info.no/hotellet/eng...

      3. Am I able to go for fishing trips like this --> datadesign.ws/x-Hellvaag/Eng... in Reine?

    • Renting a car in Lofoten Islands

by shpadre Online Now Mar 16, 2011 at 8:12 AM

On our last trip to Norway, we did not have a car while we visited the Lofoten Islands. This limited our movement. We stayed outside Svolvaer and had to take a taxi to our hotel and then were lucky that our hotel had bicycles to borrow so we could go out and eat our meals.

So on an upcoming trip to the islands (August this year), we want to get a car. Where is the best place to rent a car? Can we rent one in Svolvaer (we'd prefer to use that as our gateway to the islands, taking the express boat from Bodo). Or we may fly to Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes. Can we get a car there? A third option is what visitnorway.com says: "If you drive, you can take the car ferry from Bodø across to Moskenes, Værøy or Røst. Or you can drive further north of Bodø, to Skutvik, and take the car ferry across to Skrova or Svolvær."

What's recommended - what's the best place to get a car to get around the islands?

    • Is end of October good to see Northern Lights?

by mailberto Online Now Aug 30, 2010 at 7:19 AM

Hi everybody, my name is Roberto from Spain and I'm planning to go to the Lofoten islands in the end of October. I have thousands of questions to ask, and I don't know where to start. It's my dream to sea the northern lights, and I have been trying to plan this trip for some years now, but I never got up to it.
First of all, is it the right time of the year to see the northern lights?
If it is, I need loads of information about places to stay (very low budget), the best and cheapest way to get to Lofoten. What transport combinations are best from Spain ...
I'm sorry I have too many questions.
I have been looking a lot of websites, most of them very good, and got lots of info, but as I don't know exactly how to do it I feel really lost.
If you can help me I will thank you ever so much.

    • Ørsvågvær AS or Sandvika Camping

We are traveling to Lofoten Islands in August and trying to decide if we should stay at Ørsvågvær AS or Sandvika Camping. We are 2 adults and 2 kids (12,8). Looks like both locations have a beach for the kids to play on and rent boats. Does anyone have knowledge of these 2 campgrounds to give us some advice?

      Tromso to Lofoten transport

by dhdear Online Now Jun 18, 2010 at 10:20 AM

      Hello VT friends!

We are planning to visit Lofoten by hurtigruten, but it looks like we don't have enough cabin tickets for all of us(4),what is the best alternate way to get to and travel in Lofoten Islands from Tromso.I did not see any bus routes to Lofoten Islands from Tromso.Where does the Lofoten Islands stand on a "MUST SEE IN NORWAY" group ? Are there any other ferries ?

We have spent enough time browsing all over the internet world. VT is the only platform left for us.

      Lofoten by Bike

by FHO Online Now Jun 11, 2010 at 7:11 AM

      Hello!
I am going to work in Lofoten next week and thought of taking a bike with me there. And so, I got some questions. Hopefully smb could answer me!
      1) weather? how warm is it now there and is it much raining?
I though of cycling from Sortland to Svolvær to catch Hurtigruten there and continue by it to Stamsund.
      2) Can you recommend me the cycling roote? maps google com advises car way via road 50, but I see on the map the possbility to go to Stokmarknes and take a ferry fom there to Svolvær. the problem is I can`t find which roote is that and time table
      3) other optin is to take a ferry Melbu-Fiskebøl, but then I have to cycl up till Svolvær
and my poblem is the time:
I start early friday morning and as I take my plane from Røst on Sunday, it seems I have to get there by Saturday morning as there is no boat running from Moskenes to Røst on Sunday morning
      4) Anyone could recommend a sleeping budjet place in Røst?
