      Transportation from Alesund to Geiranger

      Norway Apr 22, 2013 at 12:21 AM

Hi everybody! I'm trying to find out what my options for transportation methods between Alesund to Geiranger and back.

I know there's several bus options and cruise options but I'm confused because I'm not sure if they will be operating when we plan on coming, which most likely look like it will be May 13th until May 16th (we will be flying in and out of Aalesund Vigra airport)

Is there anything transportation wise that would work with this schedule? I was hoping to spend the first two nights (the 13th& 14th) out in Hellesylt or Geiranger and the last (the 15th) and in Alesund.

Any information would be of much help, thanks! I can't find anything. I know fjord1.no supposedly has information but I can't figure out the website. I've also checked out Lonely Planet's guides but it doesn't really provide any useful information.

      Ålesund May 3, 2013 at 9:37 AM

      Hello,

I would like to take the ferry between Tronfheim and Alesund this summer 2013 but I'm hesitating to take rather a bus because it takes less time.

But at the same time I think it can be interestig to do a trip in ferry along the fjords.
      So here is my question:
Is the trip in ferry between Trondheim and Alesund beautiful? Is it worth to take so much time in ferry or is it better to go in Alesund with a bus?.
      Thank you for your answers.

I am doing a photo trip for Northern Lights Mar 5-10 /13 and am trying to figure out a packing list. Temps on line show around freezing, but not sure what wind, rain/snow and dark of night might be like. I'm from Canada so have lots of heavy winter gear, but my question is how much will I need. Heavy winter boots, or hiking boots and warm socks? Wind/rain overpants and long underwear, or insulated snowmobile type pants? Tips from anyone who has been there in March would be helpful, or especially anyone who has done a Northern lights photo trip?

Places to stay in Lofoten & fishing trips?

by MizBlack Online Now Mar 22, 2012 at 8:21 AM

Hello Everyone! I’m planning to make a trip to Lofoten this june and I have a few questions which I need help on. First of all, I’m planning to head over to Lofton by taking a ferry from bodo. I’ll be trying get around by bus, bikes or just walking. (I won’t be renting a car since I don’t have a driver’s license.) 1. Is Reine accessible and a good place to stay? Or would it be better to stay in other villages like Henningsvaer or Å? 2. Due to a budget constraint, I would prefer to rent a room in a guesthouse or an apartment rather than a Rorbuer. Are there any other similar accommodations in Reine like this? --> lofoten-info.no/hotellet/eng... 3. Am I able to go for fishing trips like this --> datadesign.ws/x-Hellvaag/Eng... in Reine?

    • Renting a car in Lofoten Islands

by shpadre Online Now Mar 16, 2011 at 8:12 AM

On our last trip to Norway, we did not have a car while we visited the Lofoten Islands. This limited our movement. We stayed outside Svolvaer and had to take a taxi to our hotel and then were lucky that our hotel had bicycles to borrow so we could go out and eat our meals. So on an upcoming trip to the islands (August this year), we want to get a car. Where is the best place to rent a car? Can we rent one in Svolvaer (we'd prefer to use that as our gateway to the islands, taking the express boat from Bodo). Or we may fly to Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes. Can we get a car there? A third option is what visitnorway.com says: "If you drive, you can take the car ferry from Bodø across to Moskenes, Værøy or Røst. Or you can drive further north of Bodø, to Skutvik, and take the car ferry across to Skrova or Svolvær." What's recommended - what's the best place to get a car to get around the islands?

First of all, is it the right time of the year to see the northern lights? If it is, I need loads of information about places to stay (very low budget), the best and cheapest way to get to Lofoten. What transport combinations are best from Spain ... I'm sorry I have too many questions. I have been looking a lot of websites, most of them very good, and got lots of info, but as I don't know exactly how to do it I feel really lost. If you can help me I will thank you ever so much.

Hopefully smb could answer me! 1) weather? how warm is it now there and is it much raining? We will be departing by ferry for Narvik from Svolver (after dropping off the car). We are confused whether to book accomodation in one place for 3 nights or move along the islands from A to Svolver to avoid backtracking and avoid paying any tolls twice (or more if we do day trips in the car). Is this a problem? Should we just book accomodation in the one town and if so where would you suggest? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Only I am thinking about how good streets are prepared on the way there, specifically when crossing Norways mountains, just before reaching the sea. Is there any resource on the net, where I can get a daily information about street conditions (maybe with webcam). It is snow and ice, that I think about... Thanks! Christian.
