I will be arrving on a cruise, and wonder if there is a local bus route from the cruise port to Livorno Centrale, rather than using cruiselines shuttle to the main square or a taxi, thankyou.
As far as I am aware there is no bus to the cruise port (which, by the way, is quite extensive in itself). Buses 1 and 2 go to the station from Piazza Grande, which may not be too far from where your ship docks...but I do not know how far you are allowed to walk around the port area. Bus timetables here: atl.livorno.it/Orario%20Inve... You may find it easier to just take the cruise shuttle (if offered) or a taxi, especially as you may well have to find somewhere (tabacchi or newsagent)which sells bus tickets before you can board the ordinary bus. Most Italian buses do not allow you to pay on board.

I haven't been to Livorno (well, except for that night of the strike, but nevermind)...but the port's website says this: "In Treno - Il porto di Livorno può essere raggiunto dalla Stazione Livorno Centrale con un autobus fino a Piazza Grande; da qui ci sono 10 minuti circa a piedi per raggiungere la Stazione Marittima." By Train - the port of Livorno can be reached from Livorno Centrale train station by a bus to Piazza Grande; from here it's about a 10 minute walk to reach the Maritime Station (i.e., the entrance to the port). Of course, vice versa works as well - walk south out of the port entrance about 10 minutes to Piazza Grande, then take a bus to the train station...for "train station", you will probably see something "Stazione Livorno F.S." since the parent company name of the national railroad is "Ferrovie dello Stato", commonly abbreviated as "FS" or "FFSS". I haven't researched the Livorno bus system, but I assume that had there been a closer bus that would take you directly to the train station, they would have said so... Bill

Thanks for the advice, If possible willwalk to the square, as it looks as it is only 1/4 mile from dock and then catch bus. Do not want to pay a handful of euros to be taken some where we can walk to in less than 5 minutes. Also aviod taxis when ever I can.
