Hello...I am planning to spend 6 days with family in Portugal. All are adults. Starting from Lisbon. Want to spend a day in Fatima. Can you please recommend places to go around Lisbon - day trips, even overnight trips and nice places to stay? We dont want a hectic sightseeing trip but would love to explore historical places, dine and get entertained. Thank you muchly
Lisbon is an excellent city for taking daytrips to historical places. Few cities in this world have more historical masterpieces within a two hour drive than Lisbon. If you go to Fatima then you should make a stop at the Batalha monestary too. This is located very close to Fatime, just over a hill and is very interesting and the place where Hanry the navigator is buried. Other nice places of interest that can be done in a day from Lisbon are for instance: Evora, Obidos, Tomar, Alcobaca, Sintra and even Coimbra, but that would probaply be better with an overnight stay there. All these places i mentioned there are world class places to visit.

Shalom, I agree with Claus, adding maybe a visit to Arrabida National Park (near Setubal) just south of Lisbon. All of those places are covered in my pages and all can be done on day trips from Lisbon...but it is easier to overnight say in Sintra, where we spent several days exploring the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, and surrounding area. Enjoy, Martin
