Hi, my daughter has been posted to Akrotiri for a short time and her fiance would like to visit her, the army have said they can't help, and I wondered if anyone knew of any local accommodation as near to the base as possible.
We shall spend 2 or 3 nights in Limassol. Which is the most touristy road for souvenirs please? I want to buy cheap but nice gifts for friends. Is it easily accessible?
I intend to do a 2.5/3 day rural vacation combined with hikes in the area. In late May we will be ready to start at about Mid day of “day 1” and should be at Larnaca at the evening of “Day 4”. Ideally our trip should include:
Only walking, apart from getting to/from start/end points (obviously we would prefer to spend as much time in the mountains and not walking for hours in the plains: this means we should end the trip somewhere from where we can catch a taxi to Larnaca).
Walking through as much forests/shaded areas as possible.
More linear trails, less circular ones. The best would be a series of linear trails starting/ending in different villages. Obviously there should be a lodging solution in these villages. I know that Paltres village offers several places to stay, but as for the more remote/small villages I cannot tell.
Would appreciate if anyone can think of, in general terms, an appropriate route. I’ve seen on the Cypriot tourist board’s web site some suggestions, including the E4 trail. The main obstacle is the overnight stays as I am not sure which village offers rooms for rest, places to eat etc.
We are rather trained hikers and can find our way, read maps and navigate well.
All the best
Hello from Tokyo.

Do you think we should include the Troodos mountains in our trip to Cyprus this summer? What is there to see which is really not to be missed?
Do buses go to the Troodos villages if somebody cannot hire or drive a car in Cyprus?
I am planning visiting the archaeological sites at Apiskopi -Curium, Kolossi etc. Can I see everything in one day or should I spend two or three days out there?

I was wondering if you could give me some advice on what to do in Limassol in the end of April - beginning of May. I will be there for 2 weeks and I want to know how is the weather there at this time of the year. Is it too cold to swim in the sea? Are there any nice festivals or events worth attending? Any tips would suit me!
Thanks in advance
My name is Lee. My wife and some friends will visit your lovely island country on Sunday December 6, 2009. Like so many who visit your country we will be arriving by ship in Limassol and only be there about 7 hours.
I love wine! That is why I am so excited about our visit. Cypriots have been producing the wonderful Commanderia wine since 800 BC, maybe longer. I lived 50 years of my 62 in California and grew up appreciating the blessing of wine. I will hire Cyprus Chaufeur for 4 hours to take us to some of the important wine related places near Limassol.
I have been in contact with Sophocles Vlassides and I am waiting for a reply to see if he can schedule a visit with us while we are there. I am having trouble finding his village on a map. Do you know where his family vineyard is located and how long it will take to drive there from Limassol?
We are also very interested in visiting one of the 14 villages which produce Commanderia wine. This would mean a trip to the Troodos mountains. If we drive to Domaine Vlassides and meet with Sophocles for an hour will we still have time to get to the Comanderia region, visit a winery and make it back to the wine museum in 4 hours?
I also wonder if we should expect to pay for our wine tastings at the wineries? In Napa Valley, Calif. we often can taste some wine for free and have to pay to taste "the good stuff", while in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains the tastings are almost always free. There is wine for sale at the wineries but you do not "have" to buy them. Can you explain the customs on Cyprus?
I thank you in advance for any help you can give me. Lee
My fiancée and I are regular visitors to Limassol and are thinking of getting married there. Specifically, we are thinking of The Carob Mill complex. I understand the castle there can hold weddings - does anyone if this is true ?
We were then thinking of using Karatello restaurant (in the carob mill complex) for the reception as it seems a beautiful location. I notice they have a large function room next to the main restaurant. Has anyone seen a wedding reception there or does anyone know if this is possible ?
Any assistance would be very welcomed as we are going out to limassol to see potential venues in late February.
