Budget accomodation does exist in Maseru?

by nikoskaps Online Now Aug 28, 2010 at 10:31 AM

Hi to everybody!
I'm looking for budget accomodation in Maseru (let's say dorm about 100 R, simple single room around 200 R...?) and it seems it almost doesn't exist!!
I'll be by public transport, so better find sth downtown.
I read for one (Durhams) some 3 kms away.
Really that hard for more center?
If anybody has an idea, please do send your recomendations!
(better if they have website/ e mail to conduct)
happy travels!
Nikos

    Yassou Nikos....d:o)

Been to Lesotho, but no idea about hostel type accommodations. This is what i found though:

    mbendi.com/a_sndmsg/tfacAccm...

Two of the above are Hostels. So I checked the Anglican Center, and further down on the page were several Guest Farms and Guest Houses. Worth checking out.....

    Eric efharisto poli!
They are good options, I also had the Anglican T.C. in mind, but it looks that they don't have e mail, so must call or just show up.
It seems that Lesotho has limited accomodation options and many times in inconvinient places- at least if you don't have your own wheel...
    The same for Mokhotlong...
    I keep searching.
    kala taksidia!!!

I, and a few guidebooks, recommend you stay on the South African side of the border.

    Please look here:

"GATEWAY TO THE HIGHLANDS" - Ladybrand by DAO

Maseru does not have a lot of quality accomodation. Ladybarand has it all and is an excellent base to explore Lesotho from. Also you could start here and see accomodation for yourself and then book after you have seen it.

    All the best,

    DAO

Thanks guys, it sounds very good idea, and I was thinking about it for the last night before entering Lesotho.
But since I don't have a car, I'll move around slow and for the main part of my stay I'll overnight in various places of Lesotho, which is of course interesting and necessary in terms of sightseeing, but I'll face these problems with hotels etc.
If I don't book anything for these nights and I just show up, do you think it's possible to find hostels or homestays on the spot?
many thanks again for your knowledge!
    N.

The Tourist Office in LAdybrand is excellent and has great practical knowledge about Lesotho.

The Lesotho Tourism Board has a website:

    http://www.ltdc.org.ls/

Look under the tab labeled 'Tourism Products' for a list of hotels and hostels. There are not a lot.

They speak English and you could always call different organisations/businesses in Lesotho. They are very welocoming to visitors. Most everyone waves when you are driving around.

It seems you arrive the day I leave
I think the bars are prepared for absolutely heavy duty clubbers!
But you come a little off season for night life in the islands, which have calmed down to a degree.
Also, Santorini is not the real party island, but has the probably 2 most beautifull villages of Greece, great for spending time with ... romantic company!
I wish you enjoy your time there!
