We will be driving around South Africa in a small rentl car in January 2005. Is it advisable to drive into Leshoto via Sani Pass? I see that there are organized 4 wheel drive tours from Underberg. If possible, I prefer to drive myself, but I need information about the condition of the road. Thanks
The conditions on the Sani Pass change from day to day, or from season to season. There could be rockfalls or wash-aways. The chances of doing it in a small rental car are much less than 50%.

The South African Border Post which is situated in the valley below will not allow you across the border if you do not have a 4 Wheel Drive Vehicle. The conditions of the road has become quiet bad due to a lot of rain during the winter and early summer months. I have some more information posted on my Himeville link.... Happy Jorney!
