Le Cap d'agde for the fully clothed

by AtownTraveller Online Now May 2, 2007 at 11:46 AM

I have booked a campsite in Le Cap d'agde for the family (2 kids 10 and 13). Was hoping to use it for a base to travel etc. I am starting to panic now, having read up on the place as being the european hot-spot (sorry for the pun) for nudism. Is it ok to travel around the town without meeting a bunch of hairy assed Germans? Just looking for a family holiday. Also, looking for some advice of where to go, eat etc. Anywhere within a two hour drive would do. Finally - does the casino have Texas-holdem poker nites ?

Thanks

have you checked out their web site . there schould be some info there. this may be part of a area with another name . if you google for nudism resort beach france or nudism organizations europe you might be able to come up with some usefull links.
use to do some bookings for customers many years ago.
i do remember that there once was a area or town where wearing clothes was not allowed in the day time in the summer.
if this is the case you may see some hairy butts and other items.

try keyword search. i found some results. it is a good ideal to do a keyword search when looking for information on small towns.
some times people put information on small towns and villages in the tips section of a large town nearby or in a travel log page of a larger town nearby.

looks like if you stay away from the fenced in village nudism or away from the beach you can avoid the bare butts.

i have never been to a crowded beach in spain or france were there was not many people there in the nude. there might be a beach in france somewhere where you are not allowed to go bottom less but i never heard of one or visited one.

    Don't panic.

We go to Cap D'Agde every year and have never seen any naked bodies - I kid you not.

The nudist part of Cap D'Agde is quite separate and is virtually a town in its own right on its own.

Loads of beaches for non nudists - the usual topless women but that's true of all of the Med.

    Great place for families.

The kids will love Aqualand (water park), and the beaches are great. My favourite beach is Marsellan - which stretches for miles towards Sete.

Carcassone is worth a visit (an hour) - mediaveal walled city,
Perpignan, Nimes, Montpelier are all good for a day out, all an hour away. If you need any more info I can let you have it.

Anglangs - thanks for the info. Appreciate the offer for more - I may take you up on that closer to the time. In the mean time can you recommend some good restaurants in the resort and the old town - and which ones to avoid.

    Thanks in advance.

I can't remember the last time I had a bad meal in Cap D'Agde harbour.

The Mariner is always good (it does get busy though) - it's the one with the old fisherman model outside.

We mostly eat in the restaurants at the Avant Porte ('cos they are closer to where we stay) - they tend not to be as busy as the harbour. Especially Il Pescador (on the corner) and Il Soleil (in the middle). never had a bad meal.

The Mole has some good restaurants as well.

Sete on market day is always good for a meal - especially the restaurants along the river.

Another good place for restaurants is Meze (inland, on the lake).

    Cheers

All the nudism queries have been answered- so I would recommend that you visit Sete as well.It has a great beach and a lovely town, bustling with restaurants, cafes and bars.Very reasonably priced meals. It has a great market as well-if you like nosing around those.
Yes- Carcassonne's a wonderful place to visit. We did it by train from Sete- about an hour.
We're off to Sete again in June. It's become my favourite place.Look at my Sete pages for more info.Have a good holiday.
By the way- all restaurants are family friendly- unlike in the UK:-(Families eat out together.

    Diosh

Thanks for the "heads up" on sete. I've had a look at your sete page and it definetly looks like a 'must see'. Can you recommend a guide book for the area ?

    Thanks again

    Martin

I usually get brochures, etc., from the tourist office when I'm there, but your library'll have many guide books to choose from.I've just borrowed one on Languedoc Roussillon, for my trip in June. There are Blue Guides, Fodor etc., and many by individual travellers.I always promote local libraries- being an ex librarian.Usually ir's most peoples' last thought- if at all, sadly! And T'Internet of course! To quote the great Peter Kay:-))

As long as you're not booked into the naturist area, you'll have a lovely time: however, don't venture into the naturist area (almost impossible to do so 'by mistake'. If you're not naturist, it will come as a nasty shock: this is a special party/sex resort, huge fun but NOT typical of a family naturist resort. I took my children to many naturist resorts from toddlers to teens, and Agde is absolutely not appropriate for families, especially in the evenings. (And not particularly for the beach unless you want to explain extreme piercing etc!)
However, the whole area is lovely and I wish you a great holiday, outside the Naturist resort. Sete, Montpellier, Beziers well worth a visit.
